9/1/22 $160 for Golden Retriever Grooming (Bath, nail clip, ear cleaning de-shed, haircut) Two employees admit to hearing our request to trim the dogs fur to the length equal to around her neck ( 1.5 to 2 inches) with scissors. We understood that our dog had some fur matting under her armpits and on her haunches that would need to be shaved per the groomer. Dog was left at facility for the grooming. When we picked her up, her body was FULLY shaved to 1/4" which is bad for dogs with a double coat and detrimental to their coat's health and opens them up to skin problems. They shaved her whiskers off too! This is absolutely bad for dogs. Owner apologized that they didn't call to say they wanted to shave her because she would otherwise be "uneven." We don't want to pay for it. Lazy/Negligence by staff and owner. People that know dogs know better. Any google search about shaving a double-coated dog like a golden retriever will tell you it's harmful. We had two discussions with this business prior to the appointment. On the phone, we explicitly said we didn't want her shaved prior to her appointment and then directly with the groomer and front desk person where we spoke about the scissor cut and shaved haunches and armpits when we dropped the dog off. We came back to the facility, paid, and they brought the dog out. We were shocked at what happened to our dog! Her whole beautiful golden coat with gone! We left quietly in disbelief. We went back in an hour and voiced our extreme sadness, anger, and dissatisfaction with the experience. They escalated to the manager, and we were contacted by phone the next day. We tried to resolve it but all they would do is apologize for not calling us to tell us they wanted to shave her whole body because otherwise "she would have looked uneven."
