During a routine dental checkup, I was recommended by the dentist to have a cavity filled. The office staff, who had my dental insurance information on file, provided me with an estimate for the procedure, including the amount that would be my responsibility. The estimate called for a payment from me of $21 as a co-pay. I therefore scheduled the procedure. At the end, I was presented with a bill for $60 (or triple the amount of the pre-procedure estimate) with no explanation. When I asked for one, the office staff said "well, that was just an estimate and it the co-pay be different once we file the insurance." Yet it was clear that the office had not yet filed the insurance -- this normally happens in the days following the procedure. So I was never really told why the amount I had to pay had increased so much. My concern is not only about this procedure (and the extra $39) but if I were to have a more expensive procedure, I am frankly quite worried about trusting the estimate to make a buying decision and then being presented with a much larger co-pay. I have asked multiple times to speak with the office manager of the dental practice, and no one has ever called me back.

On May 24th, 2021, I had a dental visit with Dr.Harpreet G***** at Silver Spring Family Smiles. I have two dental insurance providers. One smaller insurance with ********/******. The second larger provider with ****. Silver Spring Family Smiles needed to inform **** that Dr. G**** was out of network for ********/******. They did not. **** knew about the second insurance and thought that I owed $93 because that is what would have been covered by ******** if Dr. G****** was in network. Throughout the summer and fall of 2021, I worked with Silver Spring Family Smiles and GEHA with the end result that on October 22nd, 2021, GEHA sent an EOB stating that I did not owe the $93. They covered the $93. Despite this, Silver Spring Family Smiles has continued to charge me the $93 and even sent my account to a Collections Agency,  *********************** I do not know this money and Silver Spring Family Smiles should correct my account to show the balance as $0 and inform ********** ******* to cease attempting to get me to pay the $93.
