      TSC told me my surgery wasn't covered by insurance and wouldn’t take my insurance card the day of my surgery, but I submitted my bills anyway and BCBS did end up covering the entire cost of the surgery, but TSC would not cooperate with my insurance even though they are in network and over a year later I’m still trying to get paid. TSC billing won’t call my insurance back and wouldn’t help with any of the info requested, then when my insurance paid Towson all they had to do was pay me, instead they sent the check back to my insurance. They are terrible

      The Towson Surgical Center ("TSC") clinical staff was very caring and very pleasant. No problems during the surgery or during the recovery. As indicated by Michele Z. on the BBB site and others on ****** Reviews, we had an extremely poor experience with TSC's "billing department". We allege the billing function to be fulfilled through their affiliation with ******. TSC's billing representative is located in Florida with the processing of payments allegedly made by HQ in Nashville TN. On the day of the surgery, TSC made us pre-pay what they calculated as our deductible. I was not going deny my wife the surgery required to fix her vision. Since I could not enter the facility (COVID prevention), my wife paid it when she walked in the door. But then after our exceptionally large top 10 national healthcare insurance carrier processed the claim, we found out we overpaid and were due a refund of over $400. Since the beginning of 2021, many calls were made, and many messages left by me and numerous insurance carrier reps to resolve the refund due. Only one person handles all TSC billing and we speculate that person services other centers as well. It took constant vigilance over 9 months. The TSC billing rep did not return calls yet told the insurance carrier they did. TSC was told their contract with the insurance carrier was being reviewed for breach. That may have broken the log jam. Then we were told it would take 30 days to receive the check which is unheard of in today's electronic commerce. We speculate they thought we were going to overlook that a refund is due as most people accept EOBs as presented and do not follow up. Or they thought we would give up. We speculate they were playing the percentages. The trigger for submitting this review was that the local TSC manager would not even discuss the issue. Our money was tied up for 11 months. Please be aware. Lessons learned: talk to your doctor about a different facility that will bill you after surgery based on the insurance carrier contract, keep the insurance company included in the process no matter what anyone says, and pay only in accordance with the processed and completed insurance claim. Your money should not be held hostage.
