This company is running a scam where they come and look at your heat pump, find an issue, and require payment for their visit and charge you to pay for the part(s) in advance. That being done, they keep your payment for the parts, with no intent to return and make the repairs. Calling them countless times has not resolved anything, and they stop answering your calls.I've filed a claim with the ************************* and hope to someday get back the money that they stole from us.Initial Complaint

Contracted this company to fix my heat pump. When asked what was the issue they told me it was a slow leak and that the unit needed to be refilled which is what the technician claimed he did that caused the heat pump to be fixed. A month later the heat pump is showing the same indicators that caused it to stop working previously and the company is claiming they will not honor that they did not permanently fix the issue and must charge once again to come and fix the issue once again for the same exact problem.Customer response

The company Bangor Heat Pumps (BHP) installed heat pumps in our house in July of 2020. Since that time the company changed ownership. As the weather turned warm this spring, I noted our heat pumps weren't cooling and called BHP for service. A technician named *************************** came out and told me the unit had no coolant, likely due to a leak somewhere. He did a "pressure test" and could not identify the leak, saying that some Fujitsu units had pin-hole leak from the factory that would cost me into the thousands of dollars in labor for him to track it down. He suggested just filling the system with more coolant, saying if it was a pin-hold leak we would hope to get 3-5 years before it needed that again. These were terrible options (and confusing me sincere hadn't even made it two years with this supposed leak) but I chose to fill up the coolant. The **** was $200 for the service call and $600 for the coolant for a total of $800. The day after the coolant fill, the units weren't cooling again. ******* came back out, said the coolant was gone again, then that he had made an error and hadn't put in enough coolant. I was very suspicious but, $800 later (paid on 5/19/22), just wanted him to fix it. He put in more coolant and said it would hold because he had fixed the leak. I called him out on this, said he had not been able to find a leak and he swore to me that yes, he had fixed a leak on my system. I had to leave and he finished up and, no surprise, our heat pumps still don't cool. I have called BHP and ********* cell and they are both out of order. I called a new company to come and fix this and the agent there said that BHP periodically goes off the radar, pops in and out of business. Of course they have already cashed my $800 check so I am out that money plus starting over with a new company to actually get these units fixed. I would like my money back and for them not to do this to anyone else.Customer response

I have not heard from the business in response to my complaint.
I actually have more to report as this has unfolded since my complaint. I hired another company to fix my heat pumps and they not only found several leaks that were able to repair but also informed me that what *******, the technician and owner of Bangor Heat Pumps, did in suggesting filling the unit with refrigerant with a known leak is illegal (and fineable up to $40,000).
I have no faith that they will contact me or return my money, though I continue to hope they will. They certainly owe me the $800 I paid them since they didn't fix anything. Beyond my own loss, I am concerned that they will float back into business and fleece some other unwitting customer.
How do you suggest I proceed? All communication with them has gone unanswered.
Thank you for your assistance.
