The Independent Contractor Agreement was signed August 15, 2022 with a deposit of $10,160.00 paid to Cote Carpentry. The balance of the project was to be paid on completion. The scope of the work included replacing the front door, back sliding door, and thirteen windows, as well as repairing the damage around the doors, filling in our gravel driveway and foundation drain. Also, to construct a lean-to carport and to rebuild the front and back deck. Total cost of labor is $20,320.00.***** started work on the front deck and had not finished it before asking for more money towards his labor deposit. He claimed he needed to pick up his work truck and had a balance to pay. ***** and I agreed to help him get his vehicle. ***** offered to take 70% off his labor cost for the loan but we agreed he just do the extra work surrounding the backdoor damage if it were to exceed his quote. After asking for a revised contract to reflect the labor paid and work adjustments, ***** agreed but never produced it. At this time work slowed down tremendously and many corners were cut to save time. ***** and I made another request for the revised contract but this time we wanted to stop work after he completed the back deck and door repair. Leaving a balance owed to us of $2780. ***** verbally agreed that this sounded fair but still would not put anything in writing. We requested the work to be done by October 19, 2022 and asked for our refund. He has completely ignored all requests and did not finish the job with the same care he took at the beginning of our agreement. We will have to call in another contractor to fix/finish work that is not done as discussed (J-channel around front door installed, board on deck adjusted to eliminate too much spacing, inside trim around back door was done poorly needs to be redone and has since been removed, the dog door is too high off of the ground from inside of the house and the entrance to the dog door from the outside extension is too small).
