I visited Maine Medical Center *********** Plus on 2/15/24, which is advertised as an urgent care center separate from/as an alternative to the **** (According to their website: "We offer comprehensive urgent care services ... in a small, specialized setting. And because we are part of the MaineHealth network, expedited transfers to the MMC emergency room are available, if needed.") After my visit (for a urinalysis + blood draw), my insurance was billed $1,754.90. The facility showed on the bill as a "general acute care hospital." Under my Harv. ***** ********** I am covered to receive care at "preferred urgent care centers attached to a hospital", of which Maine Medical Center *********** Plus is included, for a $40 copay. Instead, the facility filed duplicate codes: 99213 ($271; "urgent care") and 99214 ($770; "personnel"). In addition, public records via CompareMaine.org/patient advocacy data show the charges submitted to be up to 23x the state average. Four of these are significantly higher than the rates on MMC's own Transparent Billing lookup tool. The specific charges on my bill are attached. I reached out to MMC **************** on 3/19/24 and was told that my claim would be submitted for review. I reached out twice more and received no response for a month. I finally submitted a new report and got a response on 4/22/24 that my claim, again, would go in for review. Finally a representative responded on 4/25 and said that, "Services provided at our *********** plus's are billed in a manner similar to those in an ********************* as indicated by signage at our facilities. While our facility is an *********** Plus, it is coded as an "emergency room B" facility, which affects the way your visit is processed by insurance. Due to this classification, your visit is billed as an emergent visit rather than a standard urgent care visit. As a result, the copay and coverage for urgent care benefits may not apply as expected." This is misleading and fraudulent.

On 11-22-22 I contacted my Central Maine Endocrinology to order insulin. They told me ****************** is no longer employed there, and I would have to see a new specialist before they could give me my script for insulin. I made an appointment with ****************** saw **************** on 2/17/22. I gave him information on to where to send my scripts too. (Express Scripts Pharmacy) The list I gave was Insulin, Glucagon Emergency Kit, synthroid tablets. I asked for the insulin to be reoccuring. On 6-2-22 I also called (Express Scripts Pharmacy ************ and talked to (******) and she told me that there was NO script for a (Glucagon kit). I called the doctor again and explained that I was now almost out of insulin, and they assured me I would receive the scripts soon.On 8-07-22 I had a diabetic seizure due to low blood sugar. My husband had to use my only (Glucagon Emergency Kit). My blood was so low, it took him hours to bring it up without another glucagon. On 8/8/22 I called Dr. ******* office and talked to Roseia to get my Glucagon Emergency Kit since they have never filled it to Express Scripts Pharmacy and to have them sent it to Hannafords Pharmacy instead so I have it now. I also asked for more insulin. She saw my previous request and acknowledged their mistake, but could not tell me when I would have the script for insulin or glucagon. On 8/8/22 I called back and talked to (****************) and she put in to expedite my script request. I then asked how long before I could get it, she said it should take a couple of hours for them to respond to the request and someone should be calling be back. Nobody called me back.Right now, I only have a few days supply of insulin, and no glucagon. I need both medication to stay alive and I've paid for multiple doctor visits to get these medications, but nobody at Central Maine Endocronology can tell me when I will have these medications.

I have not heard from the business in response to my complaint.  They not only have not reached out to me, but they still have not submitted this charge to my insurer.
