Medicine good. Office practices poor. Over-charging, 2-year wait for appointment, referral to collections before next appointment are all part of their business practices.

I think Penobscot Valley Dermatology is a joke. I was a patience there and when I showed up for my appointment, after receiving phone call reminders for the past two weeks, I was turned away because they said they aren't accepting my insurance company any longer. Well I found out they are still in network till the end of the year. So they didn't have a right to refuse me my appointment. The women I spoke to was rude and embarrassing in front of other patience. When I said fine I will pay the bill myself, she still refused to allow me in to see my doctor. I carry ******** and another insurance, plus they make you sign a paper, saying that if it isn't covered you have to pay for it yourself. So what reason is there to refuse a patience treatment?? I lost a days pay, traveled two hours and had waited over nine months to get in. I don't believe she had the right to do that and if my doctor was aware of it I would be surprised. I am going to follow up and find out how the insurance company feels about her lying about the coverage, which last till the end of December. I have left a number of messages and not received a call back. They make sure you have no way of speaking to them or getting any help. Where and how to you reach the manager? All they have is answering machines so you can't get any help with a problem. The staff at the front desk are rude and inconsistent with what they tell you.

Attending staff (Bangor) have made the last 7 mos of care for my daughter the worst experience with today's visit being the icing on the cake. After several days of receiving incorrect/inconsistent info from staff & visiting pharmacies to pick up prescriptions never called in over the course of the last 8 mos is unprofessional. The ofc has no staff to answer calls to speak with over the phone to clarify information, they are ill-informed and not willing to assist patients w/issues. Even more frustrating is that there is not a way to communicate w/ the only ofc mgr (oversees two offcs) despite leaving msg w/ no return phone calls. The entire country is short-staffed, but customer svc in the medical field should still be a priority.Today, I was hung up on after trying to explain that our prescription was not at the pharmacy (2 visits on two separate days). One person tells you one thing, and another person calls back and tells you the opposite and there is no person to call back to when you run into issues with being given incorrect information in the first place. When I personally visited the office after being hung up on today, an office staff member told me that she understood why I was hung up on. She became very defensive instead of trying to calm the situation. I diffused the ensuing conflict to show her I was trying to communicate about the issue at hand and she abruptly interrupted me saying she understood why her officemate hung up on me. My daughter and husband heard the entire conversation on speakerphone and could not believe how a member of the Penobscot Valley Dermatology's staff conducted herself. There is no one to be able to provide this feedback or elevate this issue to for proper resolution. The level of care received since we started w/ this clinic has been below avg. It is telling when the staff say that everyone getting this treatment eventually ends it "with a fight." That speaks volumes. I wish we would have known this going in.
