I was contacted by Midcoast Aeros to arrange a date to service a special water filter installed in 2020. On March 6, 2024, ******************* and another gentleman came to the house for the service call. Rather than even look at the water filter, the meeting turned into a sales call after ***** and his associate performed some water tests that they said showed my water had a bad problem with silt in the water - which I was already aware of - and did a hard sell on a new ion filter system for a price of $9,861.76. I was offered a financial package which I agreed to (60 months @ 9.9% promotional). Installation was schedule for March 28, 2024.Unfortunately I was then hit with a tax bill and some other expenses that made me believe it was not smart of me to take on additional debt given the recent expenses and because I already carry a huge credit card debt (approx. $40k) so I wanted to cancel the purchase. I called ***** around 3pm on Friday March 22 to tell him I wanted to cancel. ***** was at another client and asked to call me back when done, which he did right before 5pm. He kind of freaked out when I explained I was not able to take on further debt. We agreed he would call me on Monday the 25 to discuss but I got no call. Instead on Tuesday I received an email with a detailed invoice for $3,828.97 for cancellation fees due. I responded via email saying I would not pay any cancellation fees period, given I had told him I wanted to cancel almost a week before the scheduled installation. We are now at a standstill.I am appalled at not only the significant amount of cancellation fees and ***** reaction to my request. I have reviewed the paperwork I received and cannot find any mention of a) their cancellation policy nor b) the fees that would be imposed if a contract was cancelled. I think the fees are exorbitant and I need advice on how to move forward.Note: I cannot figure out how to attach the invoice as it came in an attachment to emailCustomer response
