I entered into a contract with *** Galvez on 2/9/2024 to complete renovations on my home. It stated in the contract that he would pull building permits, but he never did and started work anyway. The city building inspector implemented a stop work order, that *** ignored and he also failed to meet the inspector for a meeting and inspection and incurred fines. *** said he would take responsibility and pay the fines and finally apply for a permit, but he never followed through. I ended up paying the fines because *** said he was tight on cash and I desperately needed work to continue, but then he also never submitted all the documents needed for the permit anyway. Throughout the project, *** kept asking for more and more money upfront to pay for materials. Also as time went on, there were less and less days that the crew would show up for work. He always had a million excuses and would do just enough to keep me from cancelling the contract. We reached a point where I had paid him more than 3/4 of the contract price despite having less than half the work done, and stated that I wouldnt pay anything more until he got a permit and completed at least one section of the renovation. He became angry and accused me of being unfair, then desperately begged me for money to help him out. He had been incredibly manipulative, dishonest, and frustrating, and I have never in my life had to deal with anyone this difficult. I gave him a deposit for a plumber who never materialized despite scheduling meetings for 6 weeks- always met with an excuse of some sort until finally *** said the plumber ran away with the deposit money. He would have his employees pick up supplies from ********** and have the store call me for payment, even though I had already payed a majority of the contract up front, but *** would say that he was short on cash and if I didnt buy the supplies then he couldnt do the work. Long story short- my house is in total shambles, no permit, and *** has all the money.
