I am filing a complaint against Atlantic ******** regarding unprofessional and inadequate care related to a prosthetic leg fitting.Details: I have been visiting Atlantic ******** since Jan 2024 for a prosthetic leg fitting. During appointments, the doctor/owner exhibited unprofessional behavior, including making comments about my intelligence. This made me feel disrespected and unimportant. The prescribed prosthetic leg does not fit properly, causing discomfort and sores when worn for more than 2 hours. Despite this, I was instructed to wear the leg for 6 hours a day, which is unrealistic given the pain it causes. I have repeatedly requested adjustments to improve the fit, and he thinks that using rags to adjust the fit is a solution. The plug he provided does not meet my needs as my hands are too big to adjust it and get it to fit properly. This situation has resulted in me being forced to continue to use my old leg that is well past its life and continues to hurt my back. I continue go to physical therapy as instructed and its still not helping. I need this leg to walk, to be mobile, to get around and live my life.Atlantic Prosthetic and Orthotic Services Response

Three of our clinicians have had follow-up conversations with this patient since this review was filed. He has told all of them that he is happy with the care he receives from us. He has also expressed regret for filing this complaint, and doesn't know how to have it removed. He continues to seek care with us, and we are happy to help him. Thank you for your review, C.

I was an established patient for three months. I suspected the vacuum system on my prosthesis had failed. No one was returning my emails/calls. I sent a chat message on the website for the owner to call me. *********************** did call me on 9/6/2023, and was extremely rude and unprofessional. When I told him about my suspicion that my vacuum system had failed, he told me that if I had an urgent prosthetic need, I would need to find another prosthetist. He stated that he was going on a short-term leave of absence, and ******* [my prosthetist] would have to take on most of his clients, as a result. Their first test socket did not fit properly, even after multiple adjustments. Their custom liner literally caused my residual limb to go numb when I was driving or riding on our motorcycle. I had been fitted for diabetic shoes, but 5 weeks later, they still had not submitted any pre-authorization or claim to my insurance company. I had emails and phone calls go unanswered. When I was in the waiting room one day, another patient came in. The receptionist asked why he was there, and he said he had an appointment. The receptionist said they had called him to say the appointment had been cancelled, but the gentleman said he only had one phone, and there was NO call from Atlantic ******** saying the appointment was cancelled. Needless to say, I immediately contacted a new prosthetist right after *********************** called me. That prosthetist actually returned my call the next day, gave me an appointment the following day, and totally fixed the issue in less than 30 minutes. DO NOT GO TO ATLANTIC PRO CARE FOR YOUR PROSTHETIC CARE!Atlantic Prosthetic and Orthotic Services Response

We are very sorry to hear that the service we have provided has not been to this patient's satisfaction. We value customer feedback.
It's important to clarify some of the points in this review:
- AtlanticProCare was not the patient's original provider and did not design or fit her existing prosthesis.
- AtlanticProCare will only provide care under physician orders. In this case, we have physician orders to provide care with a new prosthesis only.
- Following the consultation, we worked with the patient to help her get the physician documentation she would need for her insurance. Ultimately, the patient received orders for a completely new prosthesis, which she elected not to have us do. She did request that we work on her existing prosthesis, which we would be unable to do without those orders. We understand the frustrations that many patients endure in dealing with insurance regulated compliance and we sincerely hope this patient is able to find the help she needs that will ease any discomfort she has suffered.

I have been a patient of Atlantic ProCaresince the beginning of this year. I entered into our patient provider relationship and knew immediately that I was in the right place. My concerns were listened to, discussed and some great feedback begin to flow into my care. I am a 37 year old left below knee amputee of 2 and 1/2 years now. I am very active and definitely strive to do the very best I can while living with a disability. Atlantic ProCare has helped me acheieve goals which I thought were out of reach. Currently I run about 20 miles a week on my prosthetic made by Atlantic ProCare. They also have a great relationship with Saco Bay Physical Therapy which happens to be in the same building. I was offered a running and gait training to improve my form and comfort while running. I also work a full time 40hr a week job in this prosthetic. It is beyond words how much this family of reliable and dedicated professionals have helped me. I look forward to acheiving even greater goals for my future with this office and know it will happen. A good relationship with any healthcare provider is vital in your care. Being able to form a strong relationship with this team has made all the difference. In conclusion I could not be happier with my care and have put as much effort as I can into communicating with my care team. Its so important to let them into your life and work as a team. You play just as much a role in your recovery as your providers do, maybey even more. Thank you Atlantic ProCare for a great year and many more to come! **********************************Review from Julie B.

My son was referred here to get a brace for scoliosis. They have been unreliable ever since but our recent interaction was by far the worst. My son had some marks left on his body from his brace and we were told that shouldn't happen and to contact them if it did. I emailed the owner and their general inbox in a Friday afternoon with pictures. I didn't hear from anyone after a few hours so I decided to call. No one answered so I left a message. No one ever got back to me so my son went without his brace all weekend until the marks healed. Monday afternoon a lady from there called me and had no good reason why no one returned my call or answered my emails. This isn't the first time I've run into issues with this company so I decided to see if we could receive care for my son elsewhere. Fast forward to today when I was in the phone with the owner of Atlantic Procare and he had told me people were in the office but not taking calls. I asked what if a patient needed them? He then had the nerve to respond and say my son didn't need them and it could have waited. I would never had know that because no one called me. If I had gotten any reply saying anything useful then I wouldn't be here writing this now. Very unprofessional, rude and unreliable.
