I hired this contractor to do some construction work to fix a leaking roof. He asked for a deposit for roofing materials that he said he would order. A few days after receiving payment he suggested I expand the size of the project and asked for a second payment for additional roofing materials for that. He briefly started demolition work, removing some materials we had installed as a temporary fix to stop rain from coming in, even though a huge rainstorm was widely forecast to hit our area. The rain came and the building leaked in new places where it had never leaked before, as a result of his demolition work. I texted him to complain, and spoke with him on the phone, and he promised to come take a look at the damage, but never came. I also asked him for an invoice or other documentary evidence for the materials order he claimed to have made and he promised to send it to me. He did not show up to inspect the damage or continue the project and never sent me the invoice showing that he had actually ordered the materials like he said he had. I called the supplier and they said they had sent samples but no order had been placed. He has ghosted me ever since and is not replying to my texts. I have recently heard that he has a drug addiction and doubt he is capable of safely executing the roof project even if he wanted to.
