**** Ash Builders was hired to complete the remaining work on the interior of my home, this included installing flooring, trim, interior doors, kitchen counters & cubboards, bathroom vanities, a barn door style gate at top of stairs. Along with hiring an electrician to do the work he doesnt do. I hired him back in Feb 2023. His bill was approx $ 26,000.00. My current balance owed to him is $ 2445.00. I have made repeated requests for him to come back out for: the interior doors were not shimmed properly during instalation so the doors are crooked, there are big gaps on tops on handle sides while the bottom of the doors on the hinge side are rubbing against trim. His worker tried to remedy this by removing the trim that came attached to doir frames and placing these back on crooked so at bottoms they are no longer centered like they came, he also cracked 2 of these trim pcs and still renailed it back up- broken. He told me it was done correctly and my painter came through and filled all nail holes, and painted, creating twice work for painter as this all needs to now be REDONE. He has not finished the trim work around 1 doir and the nose cap at top of stairs. There are 5 pcs of flooring he has yet to fix. He had me buy the wood for the gate, which he has not even started, there was to be a 500.00 charge for this. The in wall oven cabinet needs to be replaced now because when they made the cuts to size for oven the over cut it, making jagged cuts and cracking this cabinet, which was a custom design. He has yet to fix my stovetop counter/below. So at this point I have had no stovetop or oven at all. He has refused to reply to any of my requests for him to meet me here, at anytime/day to discuss the errors and resolve. I believe because his errors are going to cost him more than I owe, $2445.00 he is trying to get out of fixing these issues. He has not even started hanging the bathrooms fixtures, hanging ceiling fans, bar lights, clock, staining kitchen trim.Business response

Ms. ******** has been acting as her own general on her project, which is a hard task for a general contractor. As you can see from the attachment the items contracted to do. We are not licensed electricians, plumbers, or mechanical, so we do not offer those services. We installed the kitchen cabinets that were bought and paid for by Ms. ******** in the attached print. After installation, Ms. ******** did not like the height of her oven, so after discussion with her and her cabinet supplier, we made modifications per her request. After we did that, she decided she did not like that height. Today I spoke with her cabinet supplier and her replacement cabinet is not ordered, therefore it cannot be installed as she is requesting. As far as her cook top that got changed as far as style again, we did not order the cabinets. Interior doors were installed, and Ms. ******** had no complaints at the time of installation. AS time went by there were some defective doors that we had to replace. Again, no complaints. Months later, after high humidity levels, the doors were swollen causing rubbing as Ms. ******** had stated. In the construction world, we know that interior moisture needs to be regulated because of expansion and contraction of today’s materials. With, as far as the flooring we installed, again there were no complaints or gaps in the flooring. Weeks later, Ms. ******** called because the flooring had shrunk and left gaps. We looked at it and explained she should turn her heat up to normal temperatures and the gaps disappeared on most of the spots and we replaced the areas where the gaps remained. Again, we did not purchase the material and this product is not snap together flooring, it is loose lay like carpet squares. The flooring was installed per the manufacturer’s recommendation of perimeter gluing only. The trim around the door and trim for the flooring was not on the job site and I told Ms. ******** that the job was not bid for repeated trip and to let me know when she had all her materials per the contract, and we would return because it is only one day’s worth of work remaining once all materials are on the job site. These number of trips still are nowhere near the bided allotment. As far as the gate goes, this was not included in the contract. The stove top was a change and miscommunication between Ms. ******** and her cabinet supplier. We do not install appliances or countertops, which is not in our contract as well. Hanging bath fixtures, ceiling fans, bar lights, clocks, and staining kitchen trim are not in our scope of work and again are not in the contract. Her electricians will hang, and wire ceiling fans and other fixtures and the painters are responsible for all painting and staining. In conclusion, Ms. ******** has made a complaint against us for jobs that are not in the attached contract and therefore, we cannot and should not be held responsible for these. Furthermore, we have made several accommodations to complete her job and not only is she withholding payment, but she is refusing to order her own materials, as she stated she wanted to do, for us to finish her job. Therefore, we hope that you will take this into consideration and not allow her to slander our company for her refusal to order her own materials and for jobs that are not in our contract to do. Once Ms. ******** orders the remaining materials, we will go back to her job, address all her concerns and issues with our contracted work, as I’ve also stated to her several times.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this situation and I hope you will uphold our company’s reputation for the prideful, hard work we have done for over fifteen years.
