On January 31, 2024 I went to ************ for an eye exam that I scheduled with his office. I do this every year and have been a patient for 10+years. The exam was the same as always except they told me there is no sign of cataracts. I go to leave and receptionist charges me $15. I asked for what and she said deductible. I dont normally have a deductible, thought it was odd but paid it and left. Then I get my EOB from my insurance that says the entire bill for eye exam was coded to my medical insurance because they are now watching me for cataracts. My deductible for medical was not met yet so I have to pay for entire exam out of pocket. I am a recent widow on a fixed income and why pay for vision insurance if they are gonna charge my medical insurance? My vision insurance pays for 1 complete eye exam per year, that's why I have it. I also have no deductible on my eye exam so when I asked what the $15 dollars was about I was told by the receptionist that that is actually for a vision test that most insurances dont cover so they just tell people that to cover the cost of the test. I do not appreciate being lied to and I dont understand how they can just change billing codes from an eye exam without telling me beforehand. I am 64 years old, my mother was 84 before she got cataracts, are they gonna do this to me for the next 20 years? This just does not seem right to me. I will pay my bill but I will never go back to this eye doctor
