We had requested a free estimate from ******************* at Data recovery group in Dec 2023 for recovery of data from our hard drive. ******************* said that it was common practice for a free estimate and that we would only need to pay after we discover cost and what could be recovered. ******* came back within a few weeks with a cost estimate for nearly full recovery of our data. However it was significantly above our budget. He could not provide discount or a partial recovery. I explained our situation and asked if he could return our drive and that we would make a decision ASAP looking at our budget. ******* was very agitated that he had spent time/energy on the recovery and was angry that he may not be getting our business. He was punitive and threatening on the phone call. This was frightening since he had access to our private data (tax refunds, pictures in his possession). We explained that we would like to use his services and that we would SAVE the monies needed and reach out to him in the beginning part of new year. ******* agreed and verbally stated that he would keep our info on file until the summer ************************************************************************** trying to contact ******* since Jan/Feb 2024 by email/phone/text. He has not replied to my calls/text/emails. Noteworthy, since being in possession of our hard drive data, we have had 2 identity theft situations that we have had to try and resolve with credit card companies. I do not have proof these are linked to data recovery group but it feels related regarding the information they provided. I would like to be able to reach ******* at Data recovery group and have access to our data recovered (all pictures/tax files etc). His behavior and communication has been unprofessional and we dont feel safe with him having access to our files. There should be more sensitivity to this issue since he is dealing with private sensitive info. Please advise on how to proceed. Thank you ****
