I called A & J Plumbing and Sewer on 2/6/23 because my sewer drain backing up was when I run the washer. On 2/6/23 an A & J came out to do a sewer camera inspection to diagnose the problem. Midway through the inspection, the contractor discontinued service and stated that he was concerned his camera would get stuck and stated that he would send someone else the next day. On 2/7/23 a 2nd A & J worker came out to do a sewer camera inspection. During the inspection, his camera got stuck and he was unable to get it out. They told me that they needed to dig a whole in the basement to get their camera out and I would be required to pay for it even though they already knew it was a possibility before they started. I expressed to them that I did not have that kind of money to pay for that. They encouraged me to apply for a loan and I did. I was approved for $6,000 from the lender. The contractors returned to retrieve their camera, which was initially quoted $3,000. They worked on things that I did not ask for and returned with a bill that was $6,310.75. I did not sign this contract or agree to pay because they did work that I did not ask for even though I'd already told them I could not afford it. 4 days later, I attempted to wash a load of clothes and the drain was still backing up. I contacted them explaining that I was given a $6,000 bill and the initial problem that I called for was not fixed. They agreed to fix the issue at no cost additional cost and insisted that I pay the bill the had already given me. They returned to fix the initial problem. Poor work :( They gave me the same $6,310.75 bill. I refused to pay for the work they had done without my permission and requested a new bill for the work that I approved of. They gave me a "discounted" bill for $4,728.75. Again, asked for a bill for the work that I approved of. I will not pay for unapproved work. I have tried to work out a fair payment arrangement but I have only been threatened and harassed in return.
