In July of 2022, I enrolled in IME's massage therapy program. Before I enrolled, I met with the owner of the school, Su. I told her that because of my religious beliefs, I would not be able to participate in things such as energy work or *****. She assured me that it would not be a part of the program. So I enrolled in the program, made a $4,000 down-payment, and started a monthly payment plan (I made one payment on $302.81).On the first day of classes, September 12, I was asked to participate in energy work with the rest of the class. This directly contradicted what I was told by the owner before enrolling in the program. On September 14, I emailed IME saying I wanted to withdraw and receive a refund. During our email correspondence, they admitted to misinforming me before I enrolled. In our emails, they were vague on how much of a refund I would receive, and when I received the check in the mail, it was $1,160.00 short of what I had paid them. In the letter attached to the check, they stated it was policy that every class I attended had to be paid for.I emailed asking them to reconsider and give me a full refund because I was misinformed about the program and withdrew very quickly after classes had started, but they refused. So I am filing this complaint because I would like to receive a full refund due to being misinformed by the owner before I enrolled. Attached I have screen-shots of our email correspondence.

First, as of September 1, 2022, *************************** is the owner of Institute for Massage Education. And, the address for Institute for Massage Education is ******************************************************************************************** as of September 1, 2020.

Secondly, Reiki is not part of the curriculum and is not allowed to be so by the *****************. It appears that **************** misunderstood the difference between Reiki and energy.

Additionally, she signed an Enrollment Agreement that clearly states that once a class has begun, she is liable for the tuition for the entire class.

Let me know if you have further questions on this.

I am rejecting this response because:

I also did specifically mention that I was not comfortable with energy work before enrolling in the program, not just Reike.

Which in your email you admitted that I had been misinformed before I enrolled.

      Sincerely,

      *************************

      Business response

The miscommunication that I (*****) admitted to was due to my understanding of what was promised between 2 people that was unwitnessed by me. I made it clear that I had signed a purchase agreement for the school which was run by ***************. The agreements of the purchase were to maintain and follow all implemented policies and procedures of IME. Su is no longer owner of IME, nor is she an employee. As I stated in my last and final email correspondence with complainant, we at the school for massage education have updated our policy for refunds. I'm sorry that a full refund was not given under the agreement signed. The new agreements do allow for full refunds after 10 days.
