About a week ago my husband purchased a bottle of wine for $9.99, but was charged $11.99 + tax. This wasn't the problem, however. The problem was a day or so later we opened the wine and it was bad. The color was awful and tasted worse. My husband knows wine, as do I, and there was no mistake it had gone off. I took it back to the market and the customer service person said no problem, you can replace it. She pulled the same bottle of wine from the shelf and I left. That evening we opened the wine, and once again, it was bad. I took it back this morning and was told I could not receive a full refund or a replacement. Both bottles had been returned full with a s**** cap. I asked to speak with the owner on the phone who said he couldn't take it back because it had been opened and he would be out of pocket. I explained that like any bad product sold, he should replace or offer refund. He offered me 1/2 the amount back, and then after some debate offered me $10.00. I said as good business practice (I have been going to this store for many years), he should give me the full refund and take it up with his supplier, who is providing bad wine. He refused. Again said that that is not what suppliers do, and that I had opened the wine. I responded that obviously the wine had to be opened to discover it was bad. I informed him I would no longer shop there and would present this case to the BBB. I should mention that the cost of the wine is immaterial, it is the principle. The bottle of wine was "Rosatello" product of *****, Rosso sweet red wine. Thank you for your assistance.
