According to my parents, this is what happened - My eighty plus year old parents received a piece of marketing from Fernelius Chevrolet in ********* in their mail stating they had won two new cars. They drove to the dealership and did not receive a free car, instead they were talked into purchasing a new (2022) ***** Colorado and trading in their vehicle older but fully functioning **** Freestyle. The were told their credit score was 850, which it is not, and they were told they needed to put $4,000 down. The trade in value they were awarded was $2,000. My parents are on a fixed income, living solely on social security. They were also told by the dealership/sales team that they qualified for the loan of $40,000 through ***** Finance. My parents said they would contact their credit union, but the dealership said that they have 3 finance companies that they use and they could get a much better deal by using one of them. The dealer lead them to believe that they would be receiving a free lifetime warranty on the truck but later on the contract they noticed they had been charged $3,000 for it. Unfortunately, my parents signed the contract, they traded in their vehicle (the dealer had one of their employees follow my parents home - over an hour drive to collect their title). They drove home in their new truck that day, and a week or so later they received a letter from ********************** in ******, MI stating that their loan was declined because they do not in fact qualify. They went to their local credit union and were told that the truck was overpriced and really only worth $30,000. Now ************** has the loan...I don't understand how or why since they didn't qualify for the loan in the first place. Their payments are $660 a month just for the loan, not including full coverage insurance. They absolutely cannot afford that payment and that would have been clear to the finance person at the dealership at the time of the transaction. They also do not have an 850 credit score. Their credit union called the dealer and the dealer told the credit union that my parents could bring the truck back and they would give them their down payment and trade in value back. The next day my mom called the dealer to set up a time to bring the truck back and the dealer then told them that they would not receive their down payment and trade in value back and that when the vehicle is re-sold to someone else in the future, my parents would owe the difference if it sells for less than $40,000 (or whatever the contracted price was on the original contract). They received a letter from Ally Finance to sign and return the vehicle back over to the dealership. We have reached out to several lawyers, and they all pretty much say that it is wrong but not much can be done. This is a case of elder abuse - taking advantage of elderly people and predatory lending. We are trying to find a lawyer who will at least take on the case of elder abuse and predatory lending. We are also filing complaints anywhere we are able. A complaint has been filed with ***** Corporate Customer Service. Falling victim to this scam has caused my elderly parents tons of unnecessary stress. They are worried about losing their savings and are hugely concerned that the dealer will continue to come after them for more money once the truck is returned. The dealers were over the top nice at the time they signed the contract but are now being very rude, intimidating and unprofessional. Now my parents will not have a vehicle that they need to drive to doc appts and to buy groceries. Upon searching Fernelius Chevrolet in *********, **, on ******* there are several other reviews stating their elderly loved ones have been taken advantage of as well. They are absolutely preying on vulnerable people.

on 12/08/23 at 1pm I went into Fernelius Chevrolet and stated I wanted to see what I won from the flyer they mailed me that said I was a winner. I did not go to buy a car I already had a ***** equinox. The salesman was **** and his assistant was *****. Every time I asked what I won and said I didn't want to trade my car in they would walk off and return about 30 to 45 minutes later. The salesman just kept badgering me and told me but I can get you into a great car for only a little more than what you're paying with a full warranty for as long as you own the car. By the time I finally said look Im tired I have to go feed my dogs they took me for a drive in this car ( never let me drive it and it was dark) I was there until 8pm. Long story short they had me sign a paper then crossed off that it would have a warranty. so he lied and said it would then changed it to no warranty. Before I even got home the check engine light came on. When I tried to take it back to the dealership to have them fix it was when I was told there was no warranty and I was only given $35 for my $14000 equinox. and they gave me their worst piece of c*** off the lot. They then proceeded to have me give that car back to the bank and sell me a new car at double what I was paying in payments. The salesman lied and this business committed fraud to sell a car. I already contacted the state attorney general. taking advantage of senior women is what they are known for. Please just ****** all their reviews and you will see it has happened to more than just me. when the owner was contacted by my son (caregiver) all he said was well she knew what she was signing, so he doesn't care that his business is scamming senior women at all.
