On November 8, 2023 I took my 2015 Jeep Cherokee to Performance Plus for an oil change. While there they also did an engine flush and added additives to my fuel. Total amount for service was $145.98. I left the business and drove approximately 5 miles total as my car was running rough. It was miss firing, smoking badly, check engine light came on, battery light came on and I have lost the power steering. I was able to get to my mother home that lives near the location I was when everything started to happen. Once I got to her house and turn off my car the rest of the oil that was in it emptied out onto the floor in my moms garage. I quickly called Performance Plus explaining to them what had happened and they sent a representative to my mothers house to look at my car. It was discovered that the oil filter had been over tightened which led to the oil ring breaking, which caused oil to spray all over my engine and empty out onto the ground. The representative went back to his place of employment, retrieved the parts he needed and returned to my moms and replaced the oil and filter. After this incident I noticed my car having a ticking noise. I called the Jeep dealership and had them get it in for an inspection. My car was dropped off on 11/27/23. Jeep has been able to locate some issues and have tried to go direct with Performance Plus to get authorization to look further into the issue. The associate at Preferred **** stated that they are not able to get a misfire code to provide Performance Plus. Performance Plus has since stated that it doesnt sound like an issue related to an oil change and they will no cover the work. The technician at Jeep said they really need to tear into the engine to find out what damage has been done. So as of right now I am paying for that repair out of my pocket. I have yet to hear from Performance Plus even though their assistant manager told my husband that the district manager would be reaching out.

      Business response

      12/08/2023

Performance Plus rectified the leaking oil filter issue promptly. The vehicle was not operated without oil but rather with low oil for a very short time period and distance. Upon discussing the diagnosis with the Jeep dealership, it was determined that the current issues with the vehicle were not likely related to a low oil issue.  Furthermore, to "tear into the engine" of a vehicle that is 9 years old with over ******* miles would not provide much, if any, insight as to recent damages but would be more of a fishing expedition. Performance Plus believes the current issues with ******************** vehicle to be unrelated to our oil change service and more likely the result of ************* and tear, a pre-existing condition and/or previous repair work.

      Complaint: 20902028

I am rejecting this response because:   I do agree there may be some wear and tear to the vehicle as it is 9 years old, however I take very good care of my vehicle as maintenance is routine.  Any issues I have encountered have been dealt with immediately by a certified mechanic. I am able to provide all receipts of any maintenance done on my vehicle since purchased in 2019.    I would like to hear what the dealership shared with Performance Plus as the information passed along to me by *********************** and the Performance Plus manager are conflicting.  And when I originally spoke with the manager of Performance Plus and explained to him in detail my experience once I left the ********* location, he was quick to reply with a response that provided inaccurate information and then proceeded to tell me that the details I provided to him sounded like more of an electrical issue and had nothing to do with the work performed at Performance Plus.  The employee ***** that came to my mother's house to access the issues, informed not only me, but my mother and stepfather that the person that had worked on that portion of my vehicle was brand new and he currently being spoken to about the problem.  According to the manager ***** reported to him that my car was only a quart low on oil, however the dipstick had a zero reading, as there was absolutely no oil on it and when ***** replaced the oil, he dumped in a full container, the same white containers they use in the Performance Plus garage when replacing the oil in one's vehicle.  If my car was a quart low, then why would he have to replace the full amount.   I have had my vehicle serviced at this same location multiple times and have never had an issue until now.   I refund to start off with would have been a nice gesture considering everything I had went through that day.  That was not even offered.  Two weeks without a vehicle and approximately $4500 out of pocket to cover all repairs and the cost of a rental car due to inexperienced and unsupervised personnel at Performance Plus in *********, **.     There was no documentation provided by the employee ***** after responding to my mother's home, and when speaking with the manager and asking for a copy of the claim to be emailed to me that he claimed he was writing up and was told "no" that he doesn't provide the customer with copies that the claim would be on his file is very unprofessional and would seem to go against a code of ethics or policy and procedure in most places of business.  There is a lot of inconsistencies in this matter, and I would like to see all documentation on Performance Plus's behalf regarding this issue, as well as compensation for my unfortunate situation caused by the negligence of their new, inexperienced employee.

      Sincerely,

      *************************

Over tightened by oil pan and cracked it. I have had all my previous oil changes done here. Didn't have any issues before they touched it. Should have told me there was an issue before doing the oil change and then sayong it was cracked upon arrival.

Date of service 12/19/2022 Service - Change transmission fluid.Nature of Complaint - within 100 miles of the fluid change the transmission failed causing a $5000 repair (can document repair with mechanic).Business has denied any wrong doing even though the transmission was in working order when brought in for service. Transmission has also been maintained properly.Resolution requested - I do not expect them to pay the entire repair, but they should pay at least half. Transmission was fine, they serviced it and it immediately broke. Very suspect and they should acknowledge their part in the failed transmission by paying half the repair.

******** came in for an oil ********************** and transmission fluid change on December 19, 2022. The vehicle had ******* miles at the time of service. The service recommendation on this vehicle is every ****** miles. ******** called on January 4, 2023 and originally spoke to **** (technician). ****** (General Manager) called him back the same day to discuss this issue. ****** said the customer stated that he drove the car a couple hundred miles since the transmission fluid was changed and it started slipping.

The vehicle was at Classic Collision in ****, **, ****** called and spoke with DJ who stated the vehicle was slipping in 3rd and 4th gear. He said the fluid was full and there were zero leaks. The transmission has a small drain plug on the bottom of the transmission and a fill cap under the hood. Performance Plus drained and refilled the transmission using the correct fluid. The work that was performed was obviously done correctly as zero leaks were discovered and fluid was appropriately filled as stated by DJ at Classic Collision.

Transmissions do not last forever, there are a lot of moving parts that wear out over time and mileage, therefore, there are transmission repair facilities. Most transmission shops will tell you; transmissions may last between ******* and ******* miles.

I ONLY use Performance Plus to conduct my oil changes for the last 2.5 years. On or around 79k miles, approximately November 2021, Performance Plus performed an oil and filter change and accidently took out my front rear end oil plug and never put it back in. I returned on 4.30.22 for another oil change. My truck was making noise in my front end, thought it was the left front wheel wheelbearing, However, i acquired a water leak and took my truck to ***'s Services Unltd., and ***, the owner, told me my water pump went out AND that i was missing the plug to my front rear end and there was no grease in it. I stated to him, i've only been to Performance Plus for services on my truck. ***'s Service put in a whole new rear end in it which cost me ********. I returned to Performance Plus to inform them what had transpired asking for support on the costs. Performance Plus stated i needed to "prove" they did it. I explained to him "your team are the only ones that have been under my truck. I received a call on 9.12.22 from the manager, he stated they had a meeting and since i couldn't prove it they would not pay anything towards the cost of the repair.

Performance Plus reviewed the details of this complaint. Our findings indicated we have not serviced nor checked the level of the fluids in the differentials during our services. There was no evidence to show we had ever touched the parts the customer stated had failed.
