About a year and a half ago, I started a membership at Anytime Fitness. In July of 2022, when I was preparing to leave for college, I called them to let them know that I needed to cancel my membership because I wouldn't be living in town. The response of the owner was that I needed to come in to sign paperwork and couldn't cancel over the phone. I stopped in multiple times during their regular business hours and no one was ever there could help me so I asked for the owner's phone number. I was given the owner's cell phone number and contacted her. She gave me the same feedback, that I needed to come in to sign the paperwork, so I drove there but when I got there she was gone. I then reached out to the corporate offices who told me that they were sorry this had happened and they'd resolve it. They also suggested that I'd get credited the money back for the fees that continued to come out of my account. Nothing happened. Two months ago, my stepdad called them because their transactions had over drafted my checking account 3 months in a row. The owner was in the building so she told him that he needed to send me in. I quickly drove over there, only to run into her as she was leaving. She went back inside with me, I signed the paperwork to discontinue my membership and additional fees have continued to come out of my account. This month it's double the amount of the regular fee. This is getting ridiculous. I've never had any kind of subscription where you had to walk in, in person to sign paperwork in order to stop having money taken out of your account. Additionally, the fact that there isn't anyone ever available at the 24/7 fitness center makes it incredibly difficult (and seemingly fraudulent) that you can have these kinds of requirements. They need to stop taking money out of my account. I signed their paperwork to discontinue membership, I haven't used the facility in months, and have requested that they discontinue taking money from me dozens of times.
