On June 24th I was involved in a head on collision and Dicks atowing was the responding company that ended up towing up my vehicle. The responding police officer told both myself and the Dicks employee that I would be able to retrieve my belongings from my car after they towed it away. No information, details, costs, caveats or words were exchanged between Dicks and myself. Not one. The fire department were the ones that cleaned up the debris from the crash. Not dicks. When I called today to see when I could retrieve my belongings I was rudely told by a snippity condescending obviously disconnected and flippant employee that since I did not have FULL coverage insurance I would have to pay the **** first before I could have access to my vehicle. $300 which included 1 day storage, site cleanup and transportation. $40 each day additional for storage. When I asked to be put through to a supervisor she said I would have to wait until monday. $120 later. First of all, your company did not do site cleanup, don't take credit and charge for what the fire ***** did. 2nd, police officer said I could have access and your employee on site did not communicate anything different from what the ** said, in fact said nothing at all to me. I would have just had my vehicle towed to my house if I knew that was your predatory practice. And 3rd, wait until Monday? Am I to believe your company that's been in business for nearly ***************************************************************************** the field for nearly 30% of the week and the part of the week that according to the National Highway ***************************** fatal car crashes were more frequent on weekends, peaking on Saturday. The number of nonfatal crashes tended to be higher on weekdays, peaking on Friday. This, as a fully staffed and well led company would identify as crucial times to have a leader in the field actively aiding your responding team and serving your customers....but no, not until Monday? The customer was only being required to pay the fees that are due from the accident. She can remove her items anytime during business hours. She is not being charged to get her personal items. We attempted to explain our policy, which is the same as other municipalities. The clean up fees fully encompass start to finish of the tow and storage.
Accidents are unfortunate and not having full coverage insurance puts the cost liability on the vehicle owner.
We did advise the customer her options for Monday.
