The Chuba company did a complete roof and siding at my home. I had Del, from Chuba, come back and showed him the space between shingles and soffits. *** told me not to worry about it as I was concerned that would be an opening for Bats. I trusted his judgement since he is in the business of construction. Today I had Del over, May 16, 2023, as now I have been told by a professional bat exterminator that I have bats! *** said that most houses would be like mine, unsealed openings. I told him I don't understand why roofers wouldn't automatically make sure all openings were sealed. He didn't have an answer for me. When I know we are going to have a rain storm I close all my windows; so why wouldn't a roofer close up openings. I trusted Chuba since they had an A+ rating with the BBB. I have Bats now in my attic and *** basically said Chuba won't do anything to compensate me! Now I am stuck with a ******************* to solve this bat problem thanks to "Chuba!"

      Response to BBB

      5/24/2023
On May 12th we received a call from ********************** requesting we come out and go over his roof with him we installed in 2008. On Tuesday May 16th I met with ********************** at his residents. He complained of bats getting into this attic and that the roof wasnt installed properly. ********************** thought caulking should have been applied to where the aluminum fascia meets the roof. I explained that the roof is installed correctly, and we replaced shingles on his roof just like they came off. I explained caulking doesnt get installed to the area where the aluminum meets the fascia and that the roof was installed correctly. Caulking in areas not designated to be caulked can restrict airflow and cause water to be trapped or restrict its ability to escape. We offered to show him that all of the neighbors roofs were roofed that same way. It is unfortunate and it saddens me that ********************** is upset and that I was not able to explain this better during our visit. I am not a bat specialist, but I would like to extend an offer to come out and caulk or install screens. This caulking however, this is not a normally completed during the roofing process. The Chuba Company takes great pride in our roofs and if we thought this was a workmanship issue, we would take full responsibility. I would like thank ********************** for his business and the BBB for assisting with this process. I am hopeful we can strengthen our relationship through this process.

      Customer response

      05/25/2023

First off, I'm really surprised in Zack.  Its the Soffits, not fascia, that meets the shingles on my roof.  Secondly, he says they don't put caulking there cause it restricts air flow and water to be trapped and can't escape; I know that but that's not where the problem was.  I know roof vents and soffits are for air flow.  The way they left it, water, bats, insects, mice and small birds could get into my gaps.  The roofers should have put flashing and caulk where  my soffits and shingles meet on my roof.  I have a one inch by 6 inch openings and there are 8 of them.  He offered to show me my neighbors' houses which I didn't feel necessary.  He also informed me that they removed shingles and replaced them as they were. I had a professional "bat" company out who sealed all openings with screen/caulk plus two bat exclusions that let the bats out but not back in.  He showed me where they were coming in and brought down bat "guano."   He said its sad that a roofer would leave openings like I had and says he has seen it before, unfortunately.  If Chuba is a company that prides themselves on excellent roof replacement, then I would hope that they would pay for the cost of my bat removal service that I just paid for which I feel is their responsibility. My request is for my full refund of $1230.00.
