**** came from Houston, ** area to my home near **************, to give me a quote and do the install on some landscaping steps for my front door. Initially, he communicated well, and was prompt to give a quote, which he later modified stating that the material prices had gone up.The price quote took perhaps 1/2 an hour, and the install an hour and fifteen minutes.I was charged $1800 for a job that he broke down as $1200 in labor for shoveling dirt and spreading gravel under the landing, and $600 in landscaping steps.There are 7 total steps which lead up to the platform, which is made of of 8 of the same steps = 15 landscaping steps.I found the landscaping rocks at Menards for $6.99 each. For math ease, the total should have been $105 + some tax in material for the steps.The gravel was spread only under the platform, and was probably a wheelbarrow load. To be generous, we'll say that was $25.00.My total cost of material should have been $130, give or take w/ tax added.The hour and fifteen minutes of labor for $1200 breaks down to $16.00 a minute. There was a spot where two steps could have been placed, and **** offered to come and install those if I decided I'd like those put in at a later date. I've reached out several times without any results or further communication.I feel like my money was taken by a company that doesn't stand by their mission statement, "We take great pride in our experience, expertise, quality, and customer service that we provide to meet the consumers' needs.
