I took my daughter's VW Beetle to Berghammer on January 4, 2023. It needed to be towed there because my daughter had been on vacation and I did not start it while she was gone so the battery was dead.I asked for an oil change, new tires and a new battery. I did not have a way to pick the car back up until she returned from vacation so I paid the bill over the phone. It was over $1000. When we picked the car up on Saturday the 7th, two lights were on in her dashboard when she started the car. There had not been any lights on when we brought it in.I immediately emailed Berghammer about it because the she needed the car on Monday the 9th for school. I did not hear from Berghammer so we drove the car to them Monday night. Now three lights were on. We live maybe two miles from the shop. Berghammer was supposed to check what the lights meant. They did not get back to me about the car so I finally called them on the 11th to see what was wrong since they did NOT contact me again. They told me they could not do a light check that they did not have the correct equipment. Could have told me that before I brought it back to them.We then brought the car to a ********** dealership in *******************. The lights that were on were caused by the battery being pulled out of the car incorrectly. They ripped some of the lines. The bill at the dealership was $361.08. I want them to pay for this.Business response

We received a letter yesterday regarding the complaint by *************************. We were surprised that she did not reach out to us by telephone or stop by the business which is how 99% of our business is made. We did not see any emails to Berghammer Tire and Auto from her, but they could have went to junk mail. After getting your letter I immediately looked up the billing invoice for ************************* and after review noticed the job was completed under *******, *****. The vehicle was towed to our business which usually has a 1-2 week appointment delay. We were able to look at the vehicle January 6th due to a cancelled appointment. We did install new tires, a synthetic oil change and a new interstate battery. The total bill was $1,084.81. We called that the vehicle was done. Someone paid the bill over the phone and said they would get it on the weekend. We got a phone call on Monday that the car had some dash lights were on so ***** said to bring it back. They brought it back and we could not get the vehicle scanning machine to communicate with the OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer). We told the customer to take it to another shop in town that does electrical work on cars ( I gave her the business name) and let us know what they find. Never heard back from the customer again. We certainly will stand behind our work , we have a good reputation in Red Wing for that. We apologize that the customer did not call or stop in to talk to *********** If the lines on the battery were ripped due to the battery being pulled out incorrectly we will pay that bill once we see the receipt from the ********** dealer. I have tried to call ***** with the cell phone number on the complaint at least 4 times since yesterday and it went to voicemail and I left a callback number. We can also be reached at ************.

I am rejecting this response because:
First of all I had an appointment on January 6. It was not because you had a cancelation. I emailed you a number of times regarding the situation. I was NEVER told to go to someone in town. I was told that no one could get the machine to work on my daughter's car. You did NOT give me anyone's number to contact in Red Wing.Berghammer also never notified me that any lights were on in the car. I would assume you check the car out after putting in a new battery and new tires. ***** turned on the car and the lights were on immediately.
I will get you a bill from the ********** dealership in ******************* where we ended up taking the car.
PS I work odd hours so that is why I do most of my business online.

We never received any emails from you. Whoever picked ***********, a person with darker hair, ***** said go see **** at Riverside Auto, down the street because they work on electronics. Our computer would not communicate with this vehicle to diagnose the lights. We never heard from customer again. Again when I receive a bill from ********** dealer with battery repairs I will pay it. A phone call or stopping in to see us in person is the best way to communicate with us. Thank you.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
they never responded to my emails. They didn't let me know that there were lights on after they worked on my car. It was like I didn't matter at all. I am so disappointed with the service I received.
