My car broke down when I was working Branson so i took my car to Bat Boys to be fixed. They said my alternator failed and replaced it along with a belt. They told me there was an oil leak but did not ever note that it was related to my Alternator failing and did not explain that it was critical that it needed to be fixed or my alternator would fail again. They replaced my alternator and replaced a belt and charged me $900 and let me drive away. Within 4 hours my alternator already started failing. I called the company and they gave me a number for a nationwide warranty program and after having a diagnosis i found out that my alternator failing was in fact directly related to the oil leak (that once again i was never told had anything to do with my alternator) and that it voided my warranty. The manufacturer warning for the alternator states specifically “ CAUTION: PREVENT REPRAT ALTERNATOR FAILURE! Alternator failure may be due to an engine oil leak. On many vehicles the VTEC assembly is located directly above the dipstick and alternator. If the VTEC gasket has failed this is the source of your oil leak and alternator failure. Replacing the VTEC gasket is a quick repair rated at 0.7 hrs professional labor. Do it today” and another warning stating “WARNING: FLUID CONTAMINATION IS NOT A MANUFACTURER’S DEFECT AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY” They took my money and put a bandaid on my problem without ever explaining the true issue and causing me more problems and money out of my pocket.Business response

Ms. ******* brought her vehicle in because it would not start. We brought the vehicle in & checked out the issue. At that time, we found that the battery was dead & would not hold a charge. We could see that the alternator was covered in oil due to a significant oil leak from the valve covers. This is listed in the notes for the vehicle & was covered with the customer, as well as sent to the customer via text ******************************************. After receiving approval for replacing the alternator only, we found that the serpentine belt tensioner was also broken & required replacement. We replaced these items. After the repair, we tested the vehicle again & found that the battery would not hold a charge & was shorted internally & not safe to drive without replacement. Ms. ******* declined replacing the battery. All of our repairs are covered by a 3yr/36,000 mile nationwide warranty. Ms. ******* was made aware of this. We contacted Certified Auto Repair (the administrator for this warranty) to verify, but they have no records of her or any repair facilities starting or denying any claims for this repair. When Ms. ******* contacted us again, she spoke with the business owner. She informed him that somebody repaired the vehicle at her request, no names or repair facilities were mentioned. We will not refund any part of the repair, as the leaking valve covers & battery were both expressed to the customer who declined repair above what was required to get the vehicle to start & run.Initial Complaint

We took our vehicle in here for it's 100,000 mile tune up. Our vehicle has contained transmission fuel, which is not supposed to be changed. They changed it anyway and replaced it with a $3/qt version of a specialized product that normally sells for $25/qt. In order to do this they had to cut the exhaust system and then weld it back together. All they had to do was remove 4 bolts. The transmission has been slipping and has gotten worse, and the Dodge dealership is who told us that the fluid was not supposed to be changed. They had to pump out the cheap stuff and replace it with the type of fluid that is supposed to be there. The torque converter is shot and they refuse to admit any fault. We have tried to get them to own up to their mistake several times, the last time they escorted my husband off the property and told us not to come back.Business response

On 6/5/2020 we performed a transmission service & replaced the spark plugs on ****** *******’s 2014 RAM 1500 per his request. This request was originally quoted on 4/24/2020. This vehicle has a 5.7l with a ZF transmission. The vehicle arrived with 99,294 miles. We performed the requested services. To remove the transmission pan, we did cut the exhaust & reweld it back into place. This is a common practice in automotive repair & does not create any issues. We used a universal transmission fluid that is designed to be compatible with ZF transmissions. After the services were complete, we test drove the vehicle. No issues were present at that time.
We were not made aware of any issues until the beginning of December 2020. Mr. ******* had taken the vehicle in to the Dodge dealer for the transmission not shifting properly. When diagnosing this issue, they reset the transmission shift adaptives. Shift adaptives can take up to 200 miles to fully relearn. While test driving after performing this, according to the Dodge dealership, the issue was resolving as the transmission relearned the shift adaptives. At that time, they told Mr. ******* that we had used the incorrect transmission fluid when performing the service. We disagree with their findings, but we ordered Chrysler specific fluid & flushed the fluid at no charge on 12/8/2020. After replacing the transmission fluid, we test drove the vehicle. No issues were present at that time.
Mr. ******* returned complaining that the transmission was not shifting properly. At that time, the owner test drove the vehicle with Mr. *******. He could not verify any issues at that time. He recommended that Mr. ******* take the vehicle to an independent transmission shop in Springfield, MO to assess any possible issues. If he did that, we were not made aware of any issues or findings.
We use ******** 1 for all our information on recommended maintenance. They receive this information from the vehicle manufacturers. According to this information, the vehicle in question is recommended for transmission fluid & filter change every 60,000 miles. By that recommendation, the vehicle was 39,294 miles overdue for service at the time of initial service. As fluid cycles through the transmission, it will become dirty & break down. Dirty fluid will not serve as an effective lubricant & does not disperse heat well. This will cause wear & tear on the clutches, valves, & other parts of a transmission. Due to this, we cannot be held responsible for any possible damage that may have incurred.
We will not replace that transmission on this vehicle.
