Please accept this as the response of St. Louis Community College to a complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau by Ms. ******* ***** related to the collection of debt and the alleged negative impact on her credit report.
Ms. ***** was a student at St. Louis Community College periodically starting in the spring of 2012 and attended until the summer of 2021. During this period, she incurred debt to the College in two periods for unpaid tuition and for college-related fines. In accordance with the College’s business practices, Ms. ***** was notified of the debts and efforts were made to collect payments on the debt. When those efforts were unsuccessful, the College issued Ms. ***** pre-collection letters, and the debts were transferred to contracted debt collection agencies. The first debt was paid in full in March of 2021. The second debt has not yet been paid in full, although payments on the debt have been received by the debt collection company.
Saint Louis Community College is not a “debt collector” or a “Consumer Reporting Agency” under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The College does not, and specifically in Ms. *****’s case did not, report any debt to any credit bureau and is unaware of any facts related to Ms. *****’s allegation that her credit report has been adversely affected.
