I signed a lease for my son at this apartment complex for his previous school year in Columbia, Mo. There was a lease, but NO deposit was required upon moving in and there was NO LANGUAGE stating he had to "clean" upon leaving apartment. Upon moving out in July 2023, we were given a bill for $900 for damages. It was grossly inflated, and they double billed other roommate with similar costs. The other roommate was charged $800. I tried for 2 months to email their customer service person who would not cooperate to lower any fees. I asked to speak to a manager and/or have one call me, and they never complied. I tried emailing them on their portal to have a manager call me and no one did. I kept receiving email threats that I was going to have this bill sent to collectors. I also asked for proof of the costs of the furniture and cleaning service and was denied that information. The apt was furnished with OLD/USED/CHEAP furniture and we were given hefty fees for small damages. Small rip in a couch pillow, each family was charged $325 for the price to buy a new couch. There was a broken wooden plank under box spring, but we would have gladly fixed if given the opportunity. Then, they charged $30 here and there for leaving the things like the oven dirty and again NO language was clarified in the lease about cleaning. Also, they double charged and charged both boys the same price for cleaning fees on several items. I agreed to be on a payment plan, and at that point they lowered the bill to $600. The other roommate just agreed to pay his $800 fine. The community/students needs to be aware of how they run their business which is very unethical. So, they basically tried to recoup 2K between the two boys to replace the unit with brand new furniture. Additionally, I was there in March 2023 and I never saw a rip in the couch pillow. I also slept in the bed that had the broken board and I didn't notice the difference, so it could have already been that way.
