My surgeon fees for DOS 04-25-19 were $8,736.24. $63.671.00 for the Surgery Center. There is a 90 day global period after surgery and post op visits should have no charges. I was seen 2 weeks after surgery for my first post op visit on 05/14/21 and was charged $3,400.00 and on subsequent post-op visits I was charged 05/21/19 $131.00, 05/21/19 $1,666.28, 06/05/19 $447.35, and 07/17/19 $447.35, Total $6,091.98 When I questioned the fees the office manager told me that these were procedures and can be charged. If looking up my nose after a sinus surgery is a procedure I disagree. I was not informed of and did not agree to any additional fees I am requesting a refund and would also like to file a medical complaint.Business response

Thank you for alerting us to complaint ID ******** regarding billing or collection issues related to a patient's sinus surgery.
Explanation of Events
On 4/25/2021, the patient received sinus surgery by one of our physicians with charges of $8,736.24. This was an extensive surgical procedure that included 5 different surgery billing codes. The type of sinus surgery that this patient had is not covered by a global period which the patient stated.
The post operative office visits that the patient referred to in her complaint involved debridement which incurred procedure charges of $3,400.00 and $1,700.00 excluding the office visits. The other office visits referred to included nasal endoscopy with charges of $447.35 which is considered a procedure for billing purposes rather than an office visit. Again, these procedures performed in the office setting are not covered by a global surgery period.
Our billing representative has spoken to the patient several times and explained the information outlined above.
Plan
Since our practice billed the surgery and subsequent in office procedures correctly, there is no change to the billing and the amount that patient owes. Our billing representative is available to explain this again to the patient if needed.
