On December 8th @ 11:43am, I contacted Schultz Contracting at ************ because I wanted to get a estimate on having my counter attached back to the wall because it begin to separate. Someone came out on the December 11th and told me I would get an estimate sent to me. I recieved the estimate of $465.00 on Decmeber 12th at 11:08 am. I reponded and at 1:36 p the same day requesting to be scheduled the first week of January or after as I would be out of town. I received at response from the email ************************************* stating "Yes, we can do that." Nothing was scheduled. I send a follow up email on January 20th requesting an appointment opening for the first or second week of Jan. I was told (on Jan 28th) "Yes. We can get to this middle of next week or the start of the following week." I responded on December 28th and stated the middle of the week is good and asked if there was anything available after 9am. I was also sent an invoice by quickbooks (On December 28th), requesting a payment of ****** (assuming this was a deposit for the services) saying "Here's your invoice! We appreciate your prompt payment. Please have this paid by 1-2-24 to allow us time to schedule a ********* there for repairs." I promptly paid the invoice the same day. I requested another response on Jan 8th because I had heard nothing about scheduling and asked if there were any openings for Jan 19th or the 20th. ******* responded Jan 8th that either day they should be able work or they had someone available the next day (Jan 9th). I informed them the 19th would be fine and I couldn't do the next day. On Jan 20th, I sent an email requesting a refund for ****** that was paid for services not rendered. No one showed up. No responded. I sent another follow up (today) about being reimbursed the money that was paid. I also just looked at the receipt and there was a ***** tip that I did not put on there. I thought this was tax.

We responded to every email immediately including issuing a refund for the project. This was a small project that we scheduled to be done weeks ahead of time and the weather prevented from going on the first set date and the second set of days given was the 19th and 22nd and we had scheduled to go on the 22nd but a refund was requested on the 20th and we responded back to let her know we were available on the 22nd if she still wanted the service done and issued a refund after not hearing back on the 22nd the following morning and sent an email receipt of this to the client.

We hired Schultz Contracting to remodel our attic in April 2023. When we spoke, I told ******* we wanted a large master bedroom, bathroom and closet. He never provided us with the plans for the remodel. When we returned from vacation in September 2023, we came home to a very small part of our attic having been framed...and were told by ******* that the walls were only temporary. Over the next 8 weeks, ******* gave us many excuses about the size of our attic, stating it was all the city approved. In November 2023, the inspector showed me plans from Schultz contracting with a 2 bedroom and 1 bath remodel...completely different from what we asked for and what was actually being built. I paid $23,500 of the $47,000 attic remodel to include heating, air conditioning, drywall installation, new wood subfloor installation, walls & ceiling framing, siding and flat roof with new dormer. We found: 1. Drywall was placed on framing and left poorly secured in many areas..which was noted to be loose and would have eventually cracked. 2. The closet wall that connected to attic stairs was not straight and required total replacement of the drywall 3. The closet door was an odd shape and required an expensive door to be placed ($1000) 4. The wood subfloor was partially new and mostly old wood that had previously in the attic and had to be redone as the floor was not level. 5. The siding was placed on incorrectly and had to be redone as bare, unpainted wood was left bare to the elements. No J channels were placed 6. Drywall in the bathroom was not to code and had to be redone. 7. Window capping was not done on the outside of the new window and left bare to the elements 8. ******* Schultz sold us a Traiden mini split heating & air conditioning unit for our attic remodel that was meant to heat & cool a 3 season room. I was told by 2 different HVAC installers that the Unit was not meant for an attic remodel and incapable of providing heating and/or air for the space.

This complaint is full of inaccurate statements. First and foremost a set of plans were on site from day one. 10 days into the job the client questioned how things were going to look and I emailed her PDF plans of the project and her exact response back to that in an email “Hey.thanks for the note.realized we never really talked about what the attic was gonna look like after that first meeting months ago...so was just suprises at the configuration when we went upstairs. The guys kinda explained a bit more this morning too. I think I'm getting a sense for it now..thanks so much!!” This was before they went on their vacation and the framing was done prior to them leaving on vacation. They had full knowledge of what the spaces was going to look like upon completion. We were only 60% complete with everything when we began not seeing eye to eye and they pointed out some issues they wanted rectified on a Friday. I explained to them that we have only invoiced 60% of the work so there is still work to be completed on the inside and outside as we were doing both together. By Monday they were so upset that we weren’t working 7 days a week, they wanted us off their job and were being very ignorant and rude about anything and everything so we agreed to accept $3500 less than the work that was completed at that point for us both to walk away from the contract amicably with no liabilities to the project and they agreed to this as we did and now we are here with them not holding up their end of the bargain.
      -Thank you

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:
We were never offered to look at the plans of our attic renovation by ******* or anyone from the construction company.  We were cautioned not to go up to the attic due to construction debris, so I would not have ever known there were plans available to me.  Although we were home when the initial construction began, we were on vacation when the framing was initiated and mostly completed. When I reached out to ******* about the configuration of the renovation of our attic after returning from vacation, I had concerns that the space was not as we had spoken of in April when he came to give a bid.  I was told by him and his workers that the walls were temporary and assumed that meant it would be "bigger space" with the permanent walls.  As time went on and the space did not get bigger, I was told by ******* that the space was all the city would approve due to a 5 foot height rule.  We were later to find out from the city inspector that there was no 5 foot height rule for construction, only how the space was defined if/when I attempted to sell my home.  Additionally, when I spoke with the city building inspector and he showed me the plans that ******* Schultz's construction company submitted for my attic renovation, the plans included a two bedroom and one bathroom addition....not the one bedroom, one bathroom and walk in closet that ******* Schultz built for us.

The middle of October, we began to notice the finish work that *******'s company was doing was of poor quality (as I stated in the previous complaint)  We would later find out from our new construction company that many of the walls done by *******'s company were not straight and many needed to be redone, the subfloor was patched and not replaced, and the mini HVAC system they planned to use was not designed for an attic space of our size.  All of these missteps cost us thousands of dollars to replace and/or repair.

******* Schultz's point that I asked them to work "7 days a week" was completely untrue, I never asked that of him or his workers.  We tried at numerous junctions of the project to work with *******'s crew and their inconsistency in arrival and departure at our home during a normal work week.  Many of the workers had our front door code and were offered to use our bathroom and obtain water at any point during the day of work.  We only asked that they be respectful that their worksite was our home.

To *******'s point that we both "walked away from a contract amicably", we did not have a contract with Schultz Contracting...we only had an estimation.  When I initially advised ******* that we had lost confidence in his ability to complete our project and were considering hiring another contractor, ******* emailed me that he would "need to be fully paid before I could hire another contractor to finish the job or he would close down our permits and require the new contractor to pull new ones"  This was clearly the words of an emotionally immature individual.

My statements are not only accurate, but can be backed up by numerous texts and emails and I am happy to provide them to anyone.

      Sincerely,

      ***** *******

I hired schultz contracting to place an egress window in only that was quoted for 4000 with a 500.00 discount making it 3500. there were multiple issues as far as not being done properly since room was not closed off and no ventilation for dust, my 2000.00 couch is ruined, i spent weeks cleaning my house even after their so called cleaners came not one but twice. I had to hire a plumber to come clean my pipe out in the basement because of construction dust clean up which i have receipts for, I had to hire an HVAC company to come out as my furnace stopped working due to construction dust getting into my HVAC unit out. owner is lying stating i owe him 6800.00 which is untrue i have the last payment which was paying balance in full and receipt from him showing this is a lie. owner had blocked me so I was unable to send proof of what was needing done after I fired him. Owner refuses to send me their insurance information so I can file a claim with their insurance for all the damages done to my house. I want owner to stop contacting me, remove any balances he claims i owe so we can both amicably move on.

There has not been any contact between us and this customer since July 29, 2021, which was a text message I sent her explaining there was a balance and what it was for.  She does owe us the remaining balance of $750, however we have written it off. The full amount of the contract was $4,750.00.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. However I do want to state I was blocked so unable to contact which I have proof of. You also tried sending me something saying I owe you 6800.00 and tried to garnish my wages. ALSO still have not provided your insurance information after everything we had to have fixed when you left.

      Sincerely,
