We purchased an AKC German Sheperd puppy ( **** ) eleven weeks old from ( ****** ****** ) of ****** ****** breeder. The puppy was lethargic, weak, and throwing up the night we brought him home. We called the breeder and told her of his condition. ****** ****** told us that his two sisters had just died and she would replace the puppy with a second litter she had. She had stated that they had feed the dogs grapes not knowing that it was poisonous to dogs. We however did not just let **** die. We took **** to the emergency vet late at night ( it was a Saturday night that he got so sick.) The doctor took **** in and said that he was suffering from hookworms. The doctor gave **** two blood transfusions, medicine and TLC that saved little ***** life. The breeder gave us a very sick puppy that was infected by hookworms. We are asking the breeder to refund us for ***** emergency medical costs. The bill was $ 1900.00 dollars.

      Business response

For starters this is not a business, I am just a hobby breeder.

I sold the ******** a puppy on July 13th, not realizing it was sick. I offered a replacement puppy on July 15th and they never made arrangements to come pick it up. I had 7 puppies in this litter (i had already sold 4) and had no problem with them until 3 pups unknowingly ate some grapes. Grapes are fatal to dogs. 30 minutes after i lost the 2 i still had, the ******** called on July 15th and said their pup was sick. I immediately told them what happened and said i would replace their pup with one of a younger litter i had. They told me about the transfusions and saving the puppy on july18th. On July 26th they asked for a refund and i stated that the original offer still stands. i would replace their pup with another.

      Sincerely,

      ****** ******

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: **** was sick with  "hookworms" a diagnosis that the veterinarian  determined and Not from grapes that the breeder stated.

The breeder wanted us to just let **** die and not to seek a veterinarian care as they had gave them grapes.

We felt that it was unethical to just let **** die and get another puppy from the breeder.

The hospital saved little ***** life and we think the breeder has some responsibility.to do the right thing.

Which is to seek veterinarian care and not to simply let a puppy die.

This breeder is abusing animals by simply just giving the sick puppy Gatorade as she said she had done in an attempt to save ***** sisters.

The veterinarian bill for ***** hookworm care was $ 1900,00.

We only asked for the purchase price of **** that was $ 450.00

The breeder is listed on the website of AKC.as a breeder of German Shepherds, that's a business.

We researched breeders and thought that an AKC listed breeder would be a safe source of purchasing a puppy.

Letting **** just die without seeking veterinarian care was not an option.

      Sincerely,
      *** *******
