I had a tenant call and say that their plumbing is backing up into the tub. In the past we have had a plumber every 3-4 years to run the main drain to clear the tree roots. I figured this was the issue. I called Mr Rooter after calling several other plumbing companies. They were the first company to tell me they could make it out the day I called them. All the other companies were 2 to 4 days out. I was told that they would not give a price over the phone. The way they operate is they go out to your house, figure out what the problem is and give you an estimate. (I will never use a company that operates this way again). The tech gets to the house, calls me and says the issue is between the tub and the main drain. He says it is $342.00 to clear this branch line. I ask just to clarify that it was $342.00 just to clear the branch line down to the main and he said yes. I was irritated but had a tenant that couldn’t use their tub so I said approved the bid. I get a call a little later that the tech cannot clear the line and now it is going to be just a little over $1000 because there is a blockage in the branch line. I ask the tech what I owed him so far and he said $342.00. I was busy in a meeting at work so I told him to forget about it because I was not paying him $1,000.00 to repair any plumbing I knew was not bad. If you take the time to diagnose the issue and give me an estimate the price should not go up. If you are not able to do the job you should not charge me. I was left with a clogged branch line and a $342.00 bill. I called a couple times to try to at least cover the techs time, split the bill, or pay a service call for their time. The only person that would talk to you is the person that answers the phone. They have to call the (boss) and the only thing I could get them to tell me is (the boss) says the price is the price. I said you did not clear the line so why do I owe you when you gave me an estimate even though you did not complete the work.Business response

When you go to the doctor with a sickness and they try a treatment. You go back and they say I think we need to do more treatment do you get upset? in plumbing you find issues as you go along. Im sorry that you didn't like the price. It clearly states in the estimate and contract that it's just an estimate and you might find more work that you need to do. Just like going to the doctor. It says that your line was fine in your complaint. If your line was fine then why did you need a plumbing company. Clearly the line wasn't fine otherwise you wouldn't have called a plumber.
