I have GEHA Dental for 3 years. last month one of my teeth got a deep whole, through the X-ray, my dentist suggested I to do a root canal procedure So, I call GEHA Dental for the cost. The GEHA agent stated that they will cover 50% total amount. then I asked if that covered for an out-of-network dentist. They said yes and did not give me any more hidden detail. So actually after doing root canal I realize that all amount they cove is only about $380.00 vs the real charge was $1600. I made a phone call to GEHA in purpose to let verify things: The fact is GEHA hide the real cover cost that they accept is only 50% of $761.00 maximum. So, I tried to reach a manager there and suggested them in the future please let us know that you cover not 50% generally but the real hidden number is $380 or at least saying differently as 50% of the maximum $760.00 amount. The manager did not want to listen but keep denied the fact by saying "We did know how much your dentist charged you". She tried NOT to listen to the fact that instead of saying 50% cover, rather just said clearly 50% of the maximum $760.00 so that customers can judge themself what they should do with the current price. I am dis appoint with this service for the customer service and the way this company hide the real cost. If you are patient you will get hurt from the way GEHA chit chat with the perventage.Review from Wanda T

My experience with GEHA this year has been horrible. No clue why it takes 6 weeks to respond to pre-approvals. Then they deny the request and another 6 weeks for an appeal. They didnt seem to trust my dentists professional opinion of the work I needed done. In the long run, it would have been better for me to start a savings account with the money I spent for the premiums. The savings would have covered my implant completely.Review from Laurie J

This is the WORST company I have ever dealt with. They deny claims constantly and ended up costing me a lot of money with my dentist. Would like to give zero starsReview from patty l

If I could give this company minus zero stars I would. I am a retired federal employee. I have had (sadly) GEHA for over 12 years. I have a long history of gum disease and have had several gum surgeries to preserve my teeth. I pay high option dental. My regular dentist determined that I needed more gum surgery to preserve mt 4 bottom teeth. My teeth are great but gums stink. Anyway, the saga began while trying to even find a periodontist that takes their insurance. The first 5 dentists I called that GEHA sent me were not in their plan and one had retired THREE YEARS AGO. I finally found a dentist. We sent GEHA the consult, the x-rays. They initially refused any coverage. This process started in December. The periodontist office had to send the info an additional two times. It was finally approved in June....sure glad I did not lose teeth while waiting. I paid my co-pay and imagine my surprise when I got a denial letter from GEHA last week for an additional $3500. I called GEHA and they had the audacity to tell me that the periodontist who did my surgery was in their network BUT not at the office where I had the procedure done. It would have been nice to know as of course I would have gone to the other office. This company will do EVERYTHING to not pay. for anything including my extra cleaning per year that I am entitled to as I have ongoing gum issues. I will be changing out of GEHA as soon as there is open enrollment. Our government can send a zillion dollars to ******* but cannot provide decent dental coverage to employees. We pay for this. DO NOT TAKE GEHA.Review from Stephen L

Very disappointed in the service. Had GEHA for many years with no issues but most recently I find them risk averse. I had a loose cap repositioned but my dentist found **** rejected his claim for reimbursement because they felt the tooth should not have been recemented. My dentist and I challenged GEHAs decision to no avail and as a result I had to pay my dentist nearly $400 for the claim amount rejected by ****. Time for me to change dental plans.Review from Julie D

5 licensed dental professionals are in agreement that I have a need for Invisalign because I keep breaking teeth. My front tooth started it - broke clean off at the gum line. Im told by 2 general dentists, 2 oral surgeons and one orthodontist that my teeth need to be in line or I will just keep breaking teeth. The ONLY entity that doesnt agree is the highest option dental insurance possible that Ive had for over 7 years. They say, in spite of all the information from the dentists and orthodontist that there is NO DENTAL NECESSITY. I want everyone to know, *********************.Review from Barbara L

Horrible! Shame on GEHA. I took the high option because I knew we were going to need some major dental work done. Now they are denying my claim for a root canal because the "prognosis" is uncertain. Is **** also denying claims for say a heart transplant, or for a crown, or for treating diabetes because the prognosis is uncertain? This is absolutely ridiculous. I will not rest until GEHA reimburses me for my totally legitimate claim. I will *** them in court and expose them to the media. I hope nobody else takes GEHA insurance ever again. I sure will not!Review from latisha B

Do not use GEHA! They are absolutely the worst dental insurance company I have ever encountered! They refused to pay for my wisdom tooth extractions. Like the review below they state that their was not proper proof that I needed them extractioned. My dentist and oral surgeon said they needed to be removed. **** refuses to pay for it!The worst part is, is that I have spent the last 10 months fighting them on this! They denied my appeal a month ago and have yet to notify me or the *******************. Now they want me to pay for a 2nd opinion to consider the appeal. I wish open enrollment had not ended, now im stuck with them for a year, a have to pay $1,700 in addition to my $770 copay. This company does not deserve to be in business.Review from Philip K

the worst dental insurance plan ever. they only pay 50% of what they determine their payable should be not the usual and customary charge of what the dentist charges which lowers your actual reimbursement by 50%. It is not worth carrying dental insurance.
