I purchased a used 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser on 4-19-22 at Midwest Motor Company for $15,000. Cam Covert was the salesman/owner that I dealt with. After signing all of the documents, he informed me that the check engine lights came on while he was driving it. He said he took it some shop and they discovered a potential issue with the gas cap, while looking up the codes on the Internet, and they replaced it. He said that got rid of the check engine lights. That is incorrect, because after about 4 or 5 engine cranks the lights came on again and I messed with the gas cap and actually bought an OEM gas cap and the lights still did not go off. I took it to a auto parts store and they gave me the error codes and cleared the codes there. Same thing happened again after 4 or 5 engine cranks, the check engine lights came back on, so the only way they went away for the dealer was to have them cleared which was deceptive. Since the lights stayed on, I took it to a local mechanic and they checked it out and determined that the vapor canister and another part needed to be replaced. This will cost approximately $1066.00 plus tax. Unfortunately, it doesn't end there. The mechanic informed me that the car is a rust bucket and is rusted through on the floor boards and there are multiple spots on the frame where a scrap piece of metal has been welded over the rusted area and then painted black to conceal the damage. He informed me that the vehicle was not safe to drive in the condition that it was in, and that if the vehicle were in an accident, all of the rusted and welded parts would not hold up as they should. I purchased this vehicle for my 15 year old daughter. I'm very happy that my mechanic discovered this issue before my daughter ended up discovering it the hard way. Very disappointed in this dealers honesty!Business response

On 5/21/22, we offered ***** ****** the opportunity to bring his
purchased vehicle back to the dealership to rescind this transaction. At
that point, the customer did return the vehicle back into our ownership
and Mr. ****** was refunded his purchase price. On 5/23/22, our office
received a complaint in the mail from the BBB filed on his behalf. It
appears the complaint was filed before he contacted us about correcting
the issue. At this point, we gave Mr. ****** what he requested in the
form of a return and we will move forward with his old vehicle. This
issue has been resolved.
