We took the RV (1997 Itaska Suncruiser) in for repairs on the braking system, the leveler system. they had the vehicle twice: once for 3 three weeks and the second time for 1 week. The first time a part had to be rebuilt. The work was completed but there there two invoices. Combined the invoices totaled $2839.07. The vehicle hasn't been used during covid. It has been in storage. The mileage has not changed. I took it in March 2022 because the lift system wasn't working. The brake light indicator stayed on despite it being taken off. When I called to check on their progress, they started telling me about all the issues with the vehicle. They said they had 5 -6 hours of repair on it and it would cost at least $1700. I asked them to only check out what they had previously charged me for and they charged me $450.00--they never told me about any charge, only that they were going to check the vehicle out. The business also took the motor out without my permission. I took it to another place and the leveler system is working. I had to pay for the brake module to work.Customer response

Kohrs most recently worked on the 1997 Winnebago Itasca Suncruiser [~25 Year Old “RV”] in late February – early March 2022. Multiple statements made by Mr. ****** are incorrect so allow us to set the record straight:
On 2/22/2022, Mr. ****** signed Repair Order #****** (attached) to specifically authorize us to check the following 5 things: (i) checkout parking brake light, (ii) check out engine light, (iii) complete MVI safety inspection, (iv) check out parasitic drain, and (v) check out leveling system. In February 2022, the RV’s mileage of 96,065 indicated 231 miles had been driven since the last time it was at Kohrs (mileage of 95,834 in September 2020).
Prior to the February/March 2022 work (Invoice #******), the last time Kohrs worked on the RV was 16 months prior in September 2020/October 2020. Note that our fiscal year end is September 30th so any vehicle work in progress (open invoices) must be closed out and any remaining work is put on separate invoice. This does NOT affect the total charged for labor/material.
September 2020 Work (Invoice# 097872) included checking out leveling system operation, removing and replacing leveling jack, checking out parking brake, and rebuild/reseal parking brake chamber.
October 2020 Labor (Invoice#098000) included removing parking brake actuator and reinstalling the rebuilt parking brake actuator, replacing seized parking brake auto override cable & parking brake actuator cables, removing and reinstalling driveshaft, replacing parking brake shoes, and installing new transmission seal. See subject invoice for parts/materials related to subject work.
In February 2022, Kohrs’ General Manager had multiple conversations with Mr. ****** in regards to what Kohrs had found on his motorhome leveling system & parking brake system. Mr. ****** was informed that Kohrs had diagnostic time in both systems, and Kohrs had found that leveling jack motor was not working but had 12 volts and ground. Kohrs had to remove leveling jack motor from pump to make sure hydraulic pump was not seized up. Kohrs found that the hydraulic pump was not seized up and that it needed a motor. This check out process took over 2 hours. Kohrs proceeded to check why the parking brake light was on. Kohrs checked the previous work performed on the auto park system. Kohrs’ tech determined that the pump motor for the auto park system was not turning on. The pump motor needs to turn on to actuate the hydraulic pump to release the parking brake.
Kohrs’ tech determined that the pressure switch/sensor was defective not signaling to turn auto park pump on. As was explained to Mr. ******, this is a different problem than the previous problem that was addressed in September/October 2020 (approximately 16 months prior). The parking brake problem took 2 hours to diagnose. As previously mentioned, Mr. ****** signed a repair order authorizing Kohrs to address 5 things on the motorhome. There is often no way to diagnose problems on motorhomes without some disassembly. Mr. ****** was contacted about the findings and stated that check out time should be free. He stated he wanted previous work checked out, and he should not be charged. Mr. ****** agreed to have park brake switch/sensor replaced so parking brake would release. Mr. ****** informed Kohrs that he did not want to address leveling jack pump motor, so we reassembled leveling system motor to pump at no charge. Additionally, Kohrs’ tech disassembled pump motor and cleaned brushes inside motor to try to get motor to work. Kohrs did not charge for reassembly on that. Kohrs had 10.7 hours of labor on motorhome and charged 4.1 hours for our services which equals over $1,000 loss to Kohrs to satisfy Mr. ******.
With current supply chain challenges and backlog of work, timing often depends on if/when our suppliers/vendors can source parts for vehicles (especially older RVs) in addition to working vehicles into our schedule which is usually books several weeks out. This has been the case since the pandemic hit in March 2020 and is explained to each customer when the vehicle is dropped off. We tell each customer that if they authorize the work we work it into the appointment book as soon as we can, however, we cannot promise if or when parts may be available.Initial Complaint
