      Contracted w/ company for stair repair. Proposal signed on 2/12/22. ******* ****** ** ** ****** ***** ******* who died in Feb. Proposal of $2,500 limited to stairs: they agreed to use $500 deposit from a bigger project that was changed after ****, Estimator, strung my parents along/delayed the project. Then my dad's (a veteran) health declined & project had to be changed. After **** strung along the stair repair, on 6/30 the work was scheduled for 7/5. He asked to confirm work & I replied "The scope of the work is limited to the repair & replacement of the staircase as needed, w/ matching materials." On 7/1, **** confirmed "Understood we will be out there Tuesday & finished the same day." On 7/5, **** (Foreman), acknowledged **** told him only the stairs. **** & my mom then had a general discussion re some of the crumbling stones in an area of a wall. **** mentioned having ideas & my mom acknowledged it sounded nice. Next thing she knows they replaced wall capstones in multiple areas w/o any warning, estimate/proposal, or request for mom's approval. She had NO idea they would do extra work. Mom paid $2k on 7/7 to **** for stairs. Despite emailing w/ me for months, on 7/7 **** sent only my mom a Request for Change Order for $5283.32 w/ demand for payment & threat of interest & attorneys, knowing she struggles w/ English. I expressed unhappiness to **** on 7/24 re the surprise/tactics, inaccurate hours (DOUBLE-DIP into hours already paid for stairs), & asked for owner info. **** refused & said already w/ their attorneys despite us being w/in payment period! I called company 7/26, 27, & 28, asked owner to call me; staff claimed in meetings/out. On 7/28, I emailed address listed on FB & owner replied on 7/29 claiming was out of town & needs details from **** (yet **** said owner signed & asked him to send Change Order). I emailed asking for call on 7/29 & 8/1, no reply. Payment due 8/6, we fear they're delaying to claim interest/attorney fees & take advantage of my mom.

      We won't be charging any additional amounts beyond the agreed upon contract.  Our customer was the mother of the person who filed this complaint.
