Received painting quote in February 2022. I wanted to secure the painter for the first two weeks of May so accepted quote and provided 50 percent deposit on 3/21/22, $2327.50. I followed up the Friday before to discuss final paint colors and to verify he would start as scheduled. In providing my final paint selections to him was told the quote was only for one coat of paint for ceiling/trim and could not change my color of white with only one coat. I offered to pay for his time to apply two coats, I offered to pay for upgraded paint to make it easier, I even offered for him to only do a portion of my house and to come back later if that was going to push him back with other clients. He appeared angry that I was just now realizing I would need two coats. At the end of this conversation he told me he really didnt want to do my job but he had already cashed my deposit check and did not have the money to return so we were stuck with each other. I told him I still wanted him to do the job I just wanted to work something out so that I got what I wanted and he was compensated accordingly. He reluctantly agreed to call me Monday morning. He did call as promised with the suggestion that I needed a designer as I obviously did not know what I wanted. I will stress that he never asked for specifics nor did he provide them on his quote other than the number of coats and ******************************* premium paint of which they have more than one. I assumed we would finalize all prior to the job as I do with many suppliers. As the day progressed on Monday, I tried to work with him but he only wanted to stay with the quote as it was. He indicated I had no idea how much time it took to requote an entire house. After several condescending, confrontational comments and texts I canceled the contract on 5/2 as I no longer felt I could have him in my home. He agreed with this cancellation and now indicates he cannot refund me because he has no work. I have emails and texts to support.
