I took my truck to this transmission shop to get a new clutch put in it. I had it towed in because the clutch had 221 thousand miles on it, and the bearing went out. In process of them fixing my clutch the truck motor got damaged and knocked out of timing in there possession. I went up there and a employee named **** openly admitted that the guy who drove it in the shop was green and could not drive a stick shift all. My clutch still engaged but made a lot of noise. He admitted to him killing it several times and over reving the motor like most do who can't drive a stick shift. So they tried to blame me at first. That did not work because the guy drove it in the shop poorly, but damaged motor in process. So the shop put a bunch of parts on my truck trying to fix it without my consent. Altered with the computer, they tried catching up with timing by advancing the cap. Not to mention 2 weeks of running it trying to figure it out. The owner told me he was done with it. His repair was free and parts, but now I need to tow it to a shop to get why the timing got messed up in their possession. I rolled truck from their shop to a 5 star mechanic across the street. I want them to also pay for damages to the engine, since it ran fine beside the clutch when it got there. Owner tried lying to me saying everyone can drive a stick till I told him your employee told me different openly. He told me it's my problem now. I found out he is known for doing this if issues occur. Has no problem telling a customer to f off. Plus use customer vehicles I guess for stick shift training. I feel he is liable for damages to my motor. I even offer to pay parts they pay labor, and he refused. So I feel now he should pay it all at the mechanic shop to fix what his people did. Thank you blue 2000 Dodge Dakota is the vehicle

      Business response

      08/04/2022

Mr. ****** ***** (hereinafter “*****”) had his 2000 Dodge Dakota towed to M.T. Schiele Transmissions (hereinafter “Schiele”) on Friday, July 1, 2022.  *****’s Schiele contact was Master Technician, ***, not the owner, **** Schiele.  *****’s original complaint was the manual transmission, not the clutch, and he stated that **** ********** would replace the clutch, however, the clutch was not replaced by **** ********** prior to ***** having the Dakota towed to Schiele.  Since the Dakota was towed in, Schiele was unable to test drive the vehicle prior to bringing it into our shop.  *** determined that the clutch did need to be replaced. Schiele called ***** with an estimate on clutch replacement and ***** instructed Schiele to proceed.

Upon completion of the clutch replacement, *** attempted to test drive the Dakota, however, it was not operating properly.  Therefore, a thorough test drive was unable to be completed.  *** determined the problem with the vehicle was the engine and called ***** to inform him.  ***** stated to *** that the Dakota was running fine until Schiele replaced the clutch.  There is no evidence of this since Schiele was unable to test drive the Dakota prior to working on it.  Replacing a clutch does not affect engine performance.

Upon arrival at Schiele’s, the mileage on the Dakota was 221,571.  ***** states in his Complaint that “the motor got damaged and knocked out of timing”.  This statement is false.  The Dakota appeared to never have had an engine tune up.  ***** states in his Complaint that “So the shop put a bunch of parts on my truck trying to fix it without my consent.”  This statement is false.  ***** insisted that Schiele fix the alleged problem with the engine and gave Schiele permission to proceed.

Even though Schiele is not responsible for the condition of the Dakota’s engine, Schiele replaced the following parts at no charge to *****:

      Labor Total 20 Hours X $130.00/Hour           $2,600.00
      Engine Electronic Control Module                            $125.00
      Engine Distributor Cap                                           $30.49
      Engine Distributor Rotor                                         $22.02
      Engine Ignition Coil Set                                          $76.25
      New Clutch Set                                                                $464.39
      Air Control Valve                                                             $79.64
      GRAND TOTAL                                                                 $3,397.79

***** now insists that Schiele replace even more parts on the Dakota.

**** *******, the owner of M.T. Schiele Transmissions, never talked openly to ***** about one of his employees.  **** ******* stands by his word that everyone at this shop can drive a stick.  ***** states in his complaint that “Owner tried lying to me….”, which is a false statement.

Schiele categorically denies that anyone told ***** to “* ***”.  Schiele categorically denies that Schiele damaged the engine.

**** *******, the owner of M.T. Schiele Transmissions, was willing to give ***** the benefit of the doubt that the Dakota was running fine before he towed it to Schiele from **** **********.  However, ***** chose to file a complaint with the BBB in which he makes multiple false and defamatory statements against Schiele.

At this time, Schiele is prepared to invoice ***** for Schiele’s total loss in labor and parts of $3,397.79 and file a Mechanic’s Lien against his Dakota.
