5/5/23, I signed a proposal for the building of a deck on my property. I paid Hungry Carpenter, $4,800 deposit by check which has since been cashed. The note on the proposal indicates that the company would try to have the deck built by the end of July 2023, weather permitting. At the time of the proposal being provided, there were 2 deck jobs ahead of mine. On 6/5/23, **************** said there were 5 jobs ahead of mine. I continued to follow up in June, July, and August to find out when the job would be started *************** provided late 9/23 or 10/23. I asked at this point if I could just get my deposit back. He told me they will definitely have the deck done this year. I indicated that I was concerned the Sep turns to Oct - then Nov and I still don't have a deck. I continued to check in on the status monthly and each month am told that they are going to get to the deck. In September, he indicated he was working on a permit - however, no one from the city has ever come to inspect for a permit. November 1st, I checked and *** indicated that he has one deck he is finishing up and another in front of my job. I told him I just want my deposit back.On 11/1/23, I asked for my deposit money back, *************** told me the he will let me know how much his supplier is going to charge for the material to be returned (cancelled actually as it has not been delivered so there should be no restock fee). *** told me that he will have to charge me for the time he spent on my original appointment, the time spent drafting my proposal, the time spent ordering material and the charge from his supplier to cancel the order. At no time were these fees disclosed or did I sign a contract where these fees were agreed to.He has been cited by your agency in June 2023 for posting on his website that he is accredited when he is not and that he offers a 100% guarantee but does not provide the proper disclosures to back that up -- those badges are still active on his website at www.hungrycarpenter.net.Business response

Customer money has been refunded back for the cost of the materials. I can only work so fast on my current jobs. I also had employee issues. The customer was made aware of these issues.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
Business still needs to remove the BBB Accreditation badge from their website. This is misleading as they are not a BBB accredited business and they are fraudulently encouraging confidence in the company that has not been earned.
Sincerely,
