Please take the time to read this completely. My wife and I are both elderly and we have been duped in a number of ways. I would have never believed this was even possible for a person to be this devious. In early April 2021 the 5th or 6th I contacted the owner of this shop to explain to him to get the parts ready for my car. I had the cash to pay for it. He agreed to call me when he had all the parts so we can get the car in and out expeditiously. **** called and told me to drop my car as soon as possible. I believe I dropped the car off on 24 April 2021. I expected the car in a week to 10 days. However, whenever I called to check on the car. There was a litany of excuses on why the car is not ready to be picked up. I'm a very patient person and so is my wife I guess it goes with our age we are both well into her 70s. However after having my car for over 3 solid months we insisted on picking it up. I was told it would be ready at the end of the month on a Saturday. When I retrieved my car on July 31, 2021. I paid the full amount of the bill. When I got in my car and started it I realize there was 136,933 miles on the odometer. I merely questioned **** how did 8000 more miles get on my car. He told me he had no idea. I said the car has been with you for 3 1/2 months what happened. He said, I don't know it was locked inside my shop. **** said I was probably mistaken about the mileage on the car when I dropped it off. Rather than get into an argument with the owner. I went home and looked at our files. We were very disappointed to find out I was absolutely correct about the mileage. I told him I had receipts from 2 shops that worked on my card just prior to him getting it and they showed I had 128,000+ miles on the car. (Both receipts are enclosed in the above attachment) I reminded **** he agreed to put the car in showroom condition so my wife and I could sell it. I told him this devalued my car by thousands of dollars because of the additional miles. He again reminded me he did not use the car and he does not know how the 8000 miles came to be on the odometer. I told **** he could come over and get copies of the receipts before I went to the police. I reminded him that this theft by deception and serious matter and he should correct it. He stopped by and picked up copies of the receipts and just took a picture of the present odometer reading. He left and we have not heard from him since . It should be noted every time I called about getting my car there was always another excuse to postpone me coming by and picking it up. **** has another shop in Indianapolis Indiana about 600 miles from his home in St. Louis. Whenever I called him he was busy at his shop in Indianapolis. Sometimes he said he was finishing something small on my car to make it in perfect condition. These seem like reasonable excuses to improve the condition of my car. He was given a few weeks to gather the parts together and he knew what he needed to fix my car as is reflected in his estimate from of November 16, 2020. These additional miles have devalued my car substantially I went the Kelly blue book and pulled up what the car would be worth if it didn't have an additional 8000 miles on it and it devalued the car between $3000 and $4000. When we got the car home my wife looked at it in our driveway and noticed that there were 2 different color paints on the car. The part that he fixed was not the original color of the car. We were very confused and called ****** ****** and gave them our Vin number to find out what should be the paint on this particular car. The estimate from ****** **** **** **** is also attached the file. They recognized that the paint code on the car was not the one described in my Vin number. It was noticeable to them that the parts of the car on the estimate were not painted with the matching paint from the VIN code. He painted the parts of the car with just black paint. And it was not the proper paint for that car and noticeable to the body shop estimator. The estimator person looked at the car and said you have 2 different color paints on his car. Did you know that? So if he was repairing the car he should have an invoice somewhere in his records report that specific paint was purchased to be matched to my car. Irrespective his promise to put the car in showroom condition is just a lie. I know this is nothing major but is taken advantage of 2 senior citizens in the most despicable way. My car's value is depreciated because he put 8,000 miles on it plus every month I have to make a $567. car payment. My wife and I are on a fixed income. I am reluctant to sell the car which is depreciating on a monthly basis.

I have been using the Better Business Bureau for years to find honest quality services. This is the first time I have been disappointed in the result.I cannot comment on the quality of repairs this company provides because after a month of waiting for a bid, for a never received repair, I have to find another repair shop.I made an appointment to get a dent repaired in my rear bumper. I arrived at the appoint time but no one was there. Forty five minutes later a worker arrived and proceeded to inspect my bumper damage. I was told I would receive an estimate by email in a few days.A week went by without a bid so I called to inquire if there was a problem. I was told he had a backlog of work and would send out the bid in a few days. I asked and was assured that he had my information and would get the bid out the next day.Another week went by and still no bid. I again called and asked about the bid and was told the same thing the bids would be out the next day. That was almost two weeks ago.I understand and sympathize with companies that are short staffed in this covid age but It would have been nice to at least tell me he could not perform the work in a reasonably timely manner.

    The Dent Co. Response

    05/04/2023

Yes, we Are short staffed. ************* has my sincerest apologies for not receiving his estimate in a timely manner! As a Small shop, I have to wear quite a few hats throughout each week, as does Every business these days. My attention much of the time is directed towards the customers that have Made the choice to have their vehicle repaired by The Dent **, their vehicle is currently under roof and requires our attention in order to keep production on schedule. To me, That is the more important task at hand, to get my customer back on the road as promised. I realize that timely estimates are also a crucial part of doing business, but after a ***** hour day it becomes difficult to keep up with that part. Times have changed in that a shop can no longer "assume" or rely on cloud data bases of parts pricing and availability. **nsequently, what used to be a 30 minute estimate can now take hours to locate, validate parts availability and pricing. We average about 18 **llision estimates per week, at an average of discussing with the customer, generating the estimate, any parts research, that is easily 36 hours spent by one individual each week, which affects production of the vehicles that customers have entrusted to The Dent ** to have repaired. I have addressed this issue within my **mpany and after 3 Years of searching, I have hired a very competent front desk person, *****, that is already Aiding in expediting estimates, parts searches, and follow **** Again my apologies to *************, you fell between the cracks and that pains me! The Dent ** has maintained a Five Star rating for many consecutive years and I do my very best to keep solidly positive reviews by providing exceptional quality service. I am not making excuses, I do offer my Sincerest apologies to ************* and hopefully this sheds some light on things and that he reevaluates that a poor rating will only hurt the employees here by negatively affecting the image of The Dent ** from One missed Estimate. Again, I have hopefully remedied the situation with a very competent new hire.
