JL Concrete poured our driveway in November of 2019. I initially reached out to *********************, the owner, in June of 2021 with pictures of our driveway where chunks of the concrete were breaking off. I expressed my disappointment, and he promptly got back to me stating that he would take a look at it, and that it was due to the cold temperatures and the concrete supply company. He never came by, so I reached out again a month later, and again he said he would come by, but never did. Then in October of 2021, I emailed him and this time he stated that he would be able to patch/repair those spots, and he wanted to get it done before winter, but he never did. In January of 2022, I emailed again, and he stated that he could patch those areas in the spring, but once again, never did. The same thing happened in April and in September of 2022. Here we are in April of 2023 with multiple cracks and chunks missing from our driveway that are only getting worse. We have been more than patient with this issue, but *** has not lived up to his promises.Business response

We would be glad to take one more look at the few matters of concerns they may have.
I recommend they also call a waterproof specialty company to take a look at other underlying issues that they may be having that could be causing the driveway sections adjacent to the house to pop or chunk off
this driveway is fairly large in size and overall looks great
during removal of existing driveway there was excessive mud and wetness in the sub grade which is usually a sign of poor drainage , no exterior drain tile etc
I was in contact with ********************* about this issue during the project.
My company excavated deeper than normal and added 12 to 24 inches of base rock to help sustain the sub grade ( typical driveway replacements receive 4 inches of base rock )He understood and was aware of possible sub grade issues with being an older home.
Concrete in our region of ***************** faces several freeze / thaw cycles year after yearWe as concrete contractors are aware of this and try to educate the consumer of possible issues they may face

I am rejecting this response because: I do not understand why ****************** feels the need to take one more look at the problem. He has already been to our property twice (as you can see in the attached emails) to assess the situation, and has stated that he can repair/patch the problem areas five different times. I have attached the copies of our email correspondences, as well as his specific emails stating that he would be able to repair the problem. Even if it is due to settling or from the concrete supply company like he claims, I feel ****************** should repair the issue like he promised he would multiple times.

7/27/23 JA - Called consumer to let her know the case had been assigned to mediation. Also confirmed that the complaint had not been resolved and she is still seeking repair.
7/28/23 JA - Called consumer and let her know ****************** would like to come to her home between August 1rst and 3rd, between 2-4pm to see if there are issues with the foundation of the home, drain tiles and water issues. She agreed to him coming.

7/27/23 JA - Called business and left a voicemail for ********************* letting him know the complaint had been assigned to mediation, and asking for a call back.
7/27/23 JA - Received a call back from *********************. He said that he would like to go by the consumer's house again to see if there are underlying issues with the foundation of the home, drain tile and water issues. He said He can go by their home between 8/1/23-8/3/23 between 2-4pm.
7/27/23 JA - I called ******************, but was unable to reach him. I sent an email informing him that *********************** agreed for him to come back out to their home.

We built our house and moved in on January of 2021. JL Concrete (*** *******) poured our concrete driveway, parking pad and walkway. The pours on the walkway and driveway appear to be fine so far. The parking pad started flaking off huge chunks of concrete in February of 2021. I notified Tom of these issues right away. We came to an agreement that there were 8 pads of concrete effected by the "flaking/freckling". 4 of the pads were to be completely replaced and that he would "seal" the parking pad, driveway and walkway in an attempt to slow down any further issues. Tom took 5 months to come back out. When he did, he only replaced 3 of the 4 pads and did not "seal' the rest of the concrete that we discussed. In my many attempts to reach out to Tom, he has not responded. I have taken photos of the concrete throughout these issues that I will attach to this complaint.Business response

I worked through a builder on this project.Material supplier said the homeowner most likely put salt on driveway.In good faith I still went back and relaxed the pitted area from the salt.This customer is hard to deal with.
If my status changes from something like this then I don’t want to be affiliated with the bbb anymore.I always have satisfied customers but this one is different.Thank you

This company said they would refund the price of the sealer, since I had already hired someone to do the sealing correctly. There was no salt or chemicals of any kind. They have never refunded anything to me.
