    My family was renting a house in Willard MO. My husband signed up for the country clubs gym membership in or around March 2021 when they were having a deal on their memberships. He signed a contract to be with them for a year to pay $15/month. In April of 2022, we had a barn fire. Around this time we were tying to get our life back together after that because of all the valuables we lost in that fire that could not be replaced. We eventually found a house over 1.5 hours away and bought it in October '22 and moved in, in August '22. My husband kept calling the country club when he realized they had been charging the account when he didn't authorize an auto renewal for another year. They told him on the phone that he cannot just simply cancel because we were moving. After trying to get things done over the phone unsuccessfully that day, he has called numerous times and no one would answer. Finally in February '23, he emailed them and they responded saying they will go ahead and use the email as written confirmation to cancel but will still charge him as moving is not a valid excuse to cancel unless you're in the military. How is moving over an hour away not a valid excuse PLUS charging us $26 at their auto renewal rate instead of the $15 he had signed up for? There was also no outreach by the country club to verify that we wanted to auto renewal at that amount either. All I want from them is to give us back the money that was overdraft from my husbands account for the month of October '22 when we contacted them to cancel while we moved. Their policy is not fair when it comes to moving and they have terrible customer service.
