On Mar 17, 2023, I put on layaway a zero turn mower, Yazoo/Kees Lawn Tractor Max 2; Serial #: *********; Model #: *********; Pawn Shop Item #: *********. Layaway Ticket #: **************. I was told by the guy who worked in the shop that the mower worked and that they had tested it out. I paid it off early with a pay off and pickup date on July 20, 2023 at 10:08 a.m. Total amount paid was $1,608.96. When we started up the mower in the back cage area, we (my boyfriend, Mr. **** (another customer who agreed to show us how to work it), the pawn shop owner and myself) we noticed fluid on the floor under the mower. Once we got the mower started and was backing out of the shop, all of us noticed the mower leaking fluid(s). The pawn shop owner, (I think his name is ****) witnessed the fluid also. The mower started smoking due to the fluid leaking on the exhaust at the back of the mower. We shut the mower off at the back door before we could get it loaded onto the trailer. Mr. **** asked could he take a look at it. The shop owner stated that he didn't care because it wasn't his mower anymore. I told him that we were still on the property and that they told me that the mower was in good working condition. Mr. **** referred us to a mechanic who could check it out. I told the pawn shop owner and employees that I would be back. After a replacement of the seal 10 times (kept blowing seals), a solenoid, several other parts and many hours of service, it was determined that the engine is cracked and was sealed with some type of sealant to hold the fluid in. Once the engine was hot, the sealant melted. I have gone back to the pawn shop several time requesting for the owner to contact me and left a copy of the repair receipt. He hasn't called or reached out to me to resolve this issue. I didn't pay $1600 for a mower not to be usable. The repairs were $500 with parts. The mower is not repairable with replacing the entire engine ($1,800). The mower is a lemon.Business response

We are sorry for any miscommunication and inconvenience to ****** ********. However, within the store and on each and every receipt (see attached), it is expressly noted that all items are sold AS-IS, and that no cash refunds will be issued. The mower purchased was working at the time of purchase, any mechanical issues that were discovered after the purchase are not the responsibility of Top Dollar Pawn. We sincerely apologize if this was not clearly understood by Ms. ********.
