Concerned as to why my vehicle is not working nor in my possession 2 months after repair and payment completed. Initial and only problem was broken key in ignition. Ignition was replaced. When we came to pick up vehicle it was already running and out front. We were told not to shut engine off for 1 hr to build batteries up. Once shut off it would not turn on again. We paid additional to have the shop mechanic come to location. He was unable to start it. He jump started from rear and took back to shop. Told it could be awhile. No further communication from shop.

Jan 23 – The service truck was dispatched to customer’s location. The customer was made aware that there are additional charges for road calls. While the tech was at her location, he discovered the key was broken off inside ignition tumbler & batteries were severely discharged. After the tech connected the service truck to charge the batteries, he disassembled the ignition switch to get the motor coach started. During disassembly, he found the beauty ring around the ignition switch was held on by an adhesive that had melted and gummed up the ignition switch and tumbler. The tech was able to replace the ignition switch and tumbler & provided new keys. After this, the ignition system appeared to operate properly. The customer was notified that the cranking batteries were dated 2016. The customer had also provided several dash components that were removed by another repair facility. The customer authorized the cranking batteries to be replaced but told Service Manager not to reinstall dash components. Customer stated they only wanted motor home to crank and run so they can move vehicle around as needed. Original batteries were swollen and had only 90 CCA and 141 CCA even though both were rated for 900 CCA. The new cranking batteries were installed and had a CCA rating of 1000. The mechanic cleaned all battery cables and connections. At this time, the house batteries were discharged and vehicle required being jump started. The vehicle was set to idle to allow house batteries to charge. Before being released to customer, the voltage gauge showed that charging system was working properly. Feb 23- The customer reached out again because the motor home again would not crank. Service Manager informed her that there would be another charge for road call unless customer wanted the service truck to just come by when he had another call in the area. The customer agreed but stated they would be out of town for a month but they would hide the keys for the motor home when he could make it by. When the service truck went by to do repairs, the keys were not in designated area so no repairs were made. April 23- The customer returned from their trip and requested service truck to be dispatched to their location. The customer then agreed that the service truck could just come by when they had another call in the area in order to not be charged the road call fee. A week later, the tech went by there and started the motor home. The customer was then informed that there was an additional, unrelated wiring issue that would need to be repaired by a mechanic that deals with motorhomes and aftermarket alarm systems. The customer stated she had a mechanic that regularly worked on the vehicle but he refused to work on it anymore and she wanted McComb Diesel to make the needed repairs. As requested by customer, the service tech boosted the batteries and jump started the home so the batteries could charge. At this time the customer stated they should not be responsible for repairs and had her brother call in. The brother stated he understood there were multiple repairs needed to make sure the motor home would start properly and he would discuss with the customer. May 23- Customer called in again and stated motor home would not start. They were informed that the reason was because of the wiring issues in the dash but in good faith, McComb Diesel would inspect the ignition switch to ensure it was properly installed. The customer was then informed that if McComb Diesel were to make any additional repairs to the motor home, the vehicle would need to be brought in to McComb Diesel and the service truck was no longer going to be dispatched to their residence at no charge. As a courtesy to customer, the service truck went out to residence once again to jump start vehicle and have it moved to McComb Diesel. A short time later, a certified tech with Freightliner named Lee called to discuss the motorhome and stated that the customer was not happy and doesn’t think they should be responsible. Our tech explained to Lee about the work that had been done to the motor home. Lee then stated he believed the mechanic had performed all expected tests and procedures to identify the cause of no start and he would discuss with the customer. The mechanic again inspected the motor home for cause of battery drain and no start. During inspection of a poorly installed wiring system, the mechanic found a significant cause of the voltage drain appears to be caused by the aftermarket security system. Customer has stated their regular mechanic refuses to work on the motor home anymore so McComb Diesel recommends the customer have the motor home worked on at a professional repair facility that deals with the aftermarket security system in order to have proper repairs done to help prevent the batteries from discharging. We also suggest a battery extender/ charger. At this time, the mechanic traced the wiring and connections in the dash and found a broken wire. The mechanic made repairs to the wire so the motor home would start with the use of the ignition and key. We would also like to note that the wiring concerns appear to be the result of previous repairs made by other repair facilities, along with age and decay of protective covering on wiring. McComb Diesel again strongly recommends the customer take the motor home to an OEM RV specialist to have these wiring issues sorted out and repaired. McComb Diesel made numerous road calls to jump start the motorhome with no charge and made additional repairs to motor home again at no charge to customer.
