In 2018, I hired ***** ***** of Handyman 7 to install a deck consisting of composite material which he recommended. He said this material would never rot or stain, and the only upkeep would be washing the deck. In 2019, the deck began to buckle, dip, and hold water. I called this to *****'s attention, and he said that he had had issues with this product in gray color. He instructed an employee to drill holes in the areas where water was standing. This did not correct the problem. In 2020, after several conversations with him, he said that the decking material was laid too close against the brick of the house which caused the material to buckle. He had an employee to saw 1/2 inch off the edges of the material & said the material should flatten out in the heat of the next summer. This did not correct the problem. His admission that the decking was laid too close to the bricks indicate that he knew he was responsible for laying the deck improperly. At one point, ***** told me he had insurance to cover any problems & that he would make it right because he was a man of his word. However, he still did not redo the deck. In 2021, I filed a complaint with Lowe's which was sent to the manufacturer of the decking material. The manufacturer notified me that the deck was installed incorrectly. The decking material should have spaces between each board & screws should have been spaced every 12"-16". If this had been done, the decking material would not have buckled & dipped. When I forwarded this information to ***** in December 2021, he rebuked the findings, became angry, and said he would not pay $5000 to replace the decking material, but he would not charge me labor if I wanted to purchase the material. As of this date, ***** has not replaced the deck. I want him to refund me the total cost I paid him to build my deck. I don't want him to do anymore work for me since he originally incorrectly installed my deck.
