We had major problems with the basement of an investment property we own in New Orleans. These involved major water penetration in the habitable half of the property and piles of builders' debris, and an uneven floor, in the proposed storage half. Mr/Mrs ******** of Southern Affordable Mold Busters of Centreville, MS [SAMB] came to look at the basement (which was dry at the time); claimed SAMB were well experienced in this field; could deal with it 100% to our satisfaction; could start the work in 2/3 weeks' time; and later quoted us a few $short of $10,000 to waterproof the basemen (mainly by instaling sump pumps); remove the debris; flatten the floor in the storage area and cover it with heavy durable black plastic to provide a safe flooring. We accepted their price and they duly arrived with their workmen. We helped all we could (e.g. by finding an inexpensive skip provider and putting up their workmen in our pool house). Before they left, we did complain about some shoddy finishing and that the storage area flooring was only flimsy white plastic. But it was only later that we discovered that the plastic was dangerously slippery and that under it the floor surface was very uneven, rendering the area unfit for purpose. And then when next it rained, the water poured in, just as badly as before. We contacted SAMB and the ********s came to inspect; again they claimed to know exactly how to remedy the water ingress and promised to return to rectify their previous failure. But they have never returned and all attempts to contact them - by us and by our property agent - have totally failed...... So we are left with the original problem and are almost $10,000 out of pocket (paid to *** ******** $5,000 in cash before work began and the remainder once they claimed to have completed the work.
