HORRIBLE COMPANY. Literally an excuse for EVERYTHING. My experience;***** agreed to build our home within a four to six month time frame with an agreed upon budget. After ten months not only was the house not roofed/sided but we didnt even have doors/windows/porch/deck/flooring/etc. I got the well pump done in a day after Six months of hauling water and excuses from *****. His *******, son in law ***** is completely unable to manage resulting in a painstakingly slow process. The tension between the guys working is palpable and its obvious they all despise each other.***** said if I didnt give him a lump sum of of cash in addition to our agreed upon amount he was quitting. We conceded on everything we could to mitigate what was now a loss for him due to paying all these guys for triple the amount of labor and not even being at a halfway point. He continued to push for more and more until we finally could not give another inch at which point he quit leaving us homeless a month before winter. Management is abysmal. To get three hours of work out of the 1-5 guys that show up at 10 and leave by 2, with a lunch break, would be a good day. They did not show up more than 3 days in any week for 10 months. I do not exaggerate when I say the house looks exactly the same week after week. To say they are slow is an understatement. After ***** left us I had three brothers from a competing builder do more siding in four days than Davids guys did in 12 weeks. ***** will promise you the world and then break his word and try and take you for everything he can. If your not from the bitterroot you are prey. His word is absolutely worthless. I strongly suggest finding another builder. Please dont make my mistake and take ***** for a good ol boy or a standup guy, he is a banker playing builder. It was brought to my attention this is par for the course for him so beware. Hes in over his head and knows it but that doesnt stop him from taking your money.Meadowlark Custom Builders LLC Response

Many factors played into Meadowlark Custom Builders cutting business ties with *****. The compilation of COVID related supply chain issues and massively expensive and untimely change orders were the main contributors. Our company was on track to lose approximately $35,000 on Jasons project, purely because of the increase in cost of materials and certified trade labor. As a company, we had agreed to eat the increase in materials cost, in order to maintain a happy customer. However, tensions rose as ***** and his family were informed that their original budget did not accommodate for their desired alliance package. Their requests included a $900 Farmhouse sink a double oven, and specialty flooring, resulting in nearly double the original agreed upon expense. After allowing multiple change orders and price increases at no charge, ***** became irate when we presented him with the option of paying for the proposed change orders, or breaking the contract, ***** decided to break the contract. We tried to best meet Jasons needs and expectations during the most volatile housing market of our lifetime. The size of his home was **** square feet and we had a contract to build it for $300,000. Lumber went from $400 per thousand board feet to $2100 per thousand board feet, the cost of the plumbing bid tripled and the electrical bid doubled as well, and an extra $4,500 was spent in dirt work after a change order concerning the placement of the house. We never requested extra funds to cover those overages, We also completed change orders for ***** and never asked for extra funds. To be honest, we should have done a better job of managing expectations of our customer, however it is difficult to predict what will happen with the supply chain and material prices, especially during COVID. We have maintained professionality as a company while navigating these trying times, however we have received countless emails and personal texts from ***** lacking any form of tact with little to no mention of possible conflict resolution. When it was all said and done, We completed over $35000 of work on his house with no additional charge, on a $300,000 contract. We started the project without a guarantee that he would have the funds for the project. Investing over $50,000 of our money into his property before a loan was secured by *****. When he couldnt afford the house he wanted with increasing prices, he threatened to *** us, unless we built the home exactly to his specifications, disregarding the budget, on our dime. We have had zero contact with ***** or his family in almost 8 months, since their final **** was paid in full and we parted ways.Meadowlark Custom Builders LLC Response
