Our family bought a previously owned 2019 Honda Pilot on 4/6/21. Our family drove the vehicle ***** miles before we experienced engine failure 12/30/21 under normal driving. We reached out to Denny Menholt University Honda Dealership of ******** within the week because they had performed maintenance on our vehicle during the ***** miles it ran. We were given a verbal go ahead by their Service Drive Manager to start disassembling our vehicle to see what the issue may be (1/9/22). Upon some disassembly, we, **** the owner of the vehicle with the help of his father in law, found a broken crankshaft with no damage to the windage tray that protects the engine and could have caused the engine failure. We were advised to contact Honda of *** to get a case started, which we did (1/21/22). Next we were advised by Denny Menholt to have our vehicle towed to their service garage so their technicians could look at the vehicle (3/1/22). The technicians took pictures of the underside of the vehicle and sent the pictures to Honda ***, and determined together (Denny Menholt and Honda ***) that they believe there was too much evidence of damage underneath the vehicle from a previous car accident or accidents for them to warranty our engine, which is still inside a 5 year, ****** mile power train warranty. After many appeals and phone calls back and forth, both Honda entities do not want to investigate our vehicle's issue further. We feel that Denny Menholt's technicians and Honda *** have not done their job to prove why our engine failed, and therefore have not shown us that their engine's failure is indeed our fault and that it shouldn't be covered under their warranty. We feel Honda's engine was defective, the previous damage to the vehicle is unrelated to the engine failure, and there is enough mechanical evidence to prove it, but Honda doesn't want to take the time to do that and honor their warranty. We had our vehicle towed home to avoid storage fees on their lot (3/24/22).
