My wife and I hired Ground Up Construction to stack our long saved for and planned for dream log cabin in ******** in 2020. They were referred to us through a log manufacturer. After a "winter build" that was postponed due to severe weather that winter, they tried to resume work the spring/summer of 2021. The promised crew did not show up (I had to advertise for laborers locally for Ground Up), one working family member had to be dismissed because of excessive drinking, the senior member was too ill to be there most of the time, and the third family member didn't know how to erect the cabin. They asked for and were given payments in advance, and then we had to refuse after realizing adequate progress was not being made. We consulted with a local, recommended contractor and he urged us to discontinue construction immediately. After also consulting with our log manufacuturer, we dismissed Ground Up. They had leased a travel trailer to live in on site, and did not return it in acceptable condition or pay for it in full. We had to work with the gentleman who had rented it to them when they left town. Our cabin is not yet complete. We are working with some local companies to correct some of the work that has been done, and to finish the stacking. Ground Up has not communicated or made an attempt to refund ANY prepayments that were made to them for agreed upon, contracted work. We made those funds available to them because we knew that the bad winter weather was beyond their control, and we trusted them to do the agreed upon work when it was possible. That never came about from fall, 2020 through the summer of 2021. Ground Up Construction assured us they are very qualified and willing to complete our relatively simple cabin, and have proven to be completely unable or unwilling to do as they said. No efforts to refund us for our time and trust have been made by them in any form. Unfortunately, we could not recommend them for even a minor construction project.
