I rented a beach house in ************** through ********************************************** Realtors for the dates 5/18-5/21/23. Upon my return home, I noticed an unauthorized charge to my credit card from ********************************************* (hereafter C&B) in the amount of $30. Upon inquiry to C&B, the company informed me that I had been charged a cleaning fee for failing to properly clean the outdoor propane grill.I never received any notice that cleaning of the outdoor grill was required. C&B sent detailed check out instructions to me both before and during our stay and none of these documents mentioned the obligation of cleaning the outdoor grill. The grill requirement was not mentioned in either the (1) Vacation Rental Agreement, (2) the Guest Addendum specific to "Shorebirds" (house that I rented), (3) the detailed and specific Checkout Instructions e-mailed to me for the property or, (4) on the Checkout Procedures posted on the refrigerator in the property. C&B was unmoved by my unwillingness to pay a fine for something I had no notice of and has not removed the charge. Their response was that there was an insert in the welcome packet about cleaning the grill and they refused to believe that the insert had not been included in the packet. Even though I wrote to them that several adults had reviewed all the checkout instructions and the entire welcome packet and none had seen any alleged insert about outdoor grill cleaning. C&B sent a digital copy of the insert as "proof." I am at a loss as to why C&B did not include the insert/grill cleaning notice in their C&B rental house check out e-mail containing specific cleaning/check out instructions for the property. If they expected that the grill be cleaned, then I should have been given proper notice. Furthermore, where were the tools/cleaning supplies necessary to clean the grill? Where were the instructions on how to clean it? Our group worked hard to leave the house in a clean condition and to follow all of the cleaning instructions.
