I hired a brick mason to repair and regrout bricks. The quality of the workmanship is terrible and the job is incomplete. The requested bricks were replaced but the grout work is sloppy and doesn't match. The business will not answer my calls unless I call from a new number. They have promised multiple times to come out and finish the work but never show. The job has been paid in full but the job was abandoned weeks ago. I have given *******, the business owner multiple chances to return to the home and complete the job and tried to resolve with the business first prior to filing this complaint.

In regards to the complaint. The picture shown is not a part of the work we had a part of. When we left the project it was desired by the owners other than rewashing it. When starting the project the owners knew that there would be a difference in the mortar joints as to the color. There is a difference of 60 years in the mortar that was there compared to the new we installed. The owners also knew that the only way to solve this is to replace the entire porch, walk in which they choose not to do.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The complaint is specific to the way the mortar is running out of the cracks and over-flowing onto the brick work and shorter bricks installed.  The owner acknowledges through text messages that the work was incomplete and promises to return and complete the work.  Please see the first attachment from Will asking if I want him to start the new project or just FINISH the tuckpointing.  If his response to my BBB complaint is true then why are his text messages speaking of "finishing the job".   My complaint is about the workmanship of the job and the pictures support the mortar not being neatly placed in the grooves.

He repeatedly sends messages stating he is coming to finish the job so he couldn't have thought the job was finished.  The screenshots attached supports this narrative.

      Sincerely,

      ***** *******

After receiving first payment contractor ****** bought the supplies he needed in the agreement we agreed that when it's time for the concrete I will give him another payment I did he went and bought some other materials but never ordered the concrete. Since then I have seen him once at my house and that was just to come out there for I don't know what reason cause the sun was going down I asked him to be done by a certain day that day has come and passed. Still have not heard or seen him in over a week. I haven't giving him a final payment. The first payment was around January 26 of $4000.00 the second payment was then another payment $1200 February 23. The agreement was for $7200 for a 30'x20' porch with concrete center and steps. This is on the contract we both signed. I would like for him to finish the job and pay him what we agreed.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/03/14) */ Contact Name and Title:************** Contact Phone:*********** Contact Email:******************************* The owner and I resolved the issue.Labor monies was a issue and the increase in supplies. Consumer Response /* (3000, 12, 2022/04/10) */ No this issue is not resolved the contractor hood winked me out of my money. We have not agreed to any thing I hired another concrete crew to come in and finish their work. Because it was so poorly done. Since he didn't finish the job I request money back and still no reply he will not answer or call me to resolve the issue. Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2022/04/12) */ As I have Pictures of the work performed. The owner paid $4000.00 for the materials to build a brick porch and a set of what were suppose to be a standard porch that turned into a 6 feet porch. The materials were purchased from ***** Products. The Purchase Order was sent with the products. Of that $3,800.00 were spent. An additional $1.200.00 was paid for the additional materials which was sheet metal and additional rebar for the porch. Also additional Blocks were purchased from ***** Home Improvement and Cement for footers. After doing this the owner wanted to fill the porch with dirt to pour the concrete which would have been costly and was not in the agreement. The work was said to be satisfactory up to the point that the additional work order was made and with no cost of the $2,000 promised for labor. When the additional work was proposed the owner said he would pay the additional cost but never did nor did he pay any labor cost for the first porch and steps built in which I have pictures from the beginning to the ending of the job. After trying to complete the task which became difficult because of the additional add on and changing the scope of the work at that time I decided to take the loss and move on. I have tried to work with the owner in every way possible and found that it was not possible. Consumer Response I added pictures to show you some of the work this contractor did in one picture you can see were he did not put mortar on the beings to bond them in another picture you can see he didn't dig footers for the bricks in another photo you can see the other contractors guy cutting out the bring that Down East messed up and had it running back towards the house. Down east contractor wanted to use thin tin as seen I the photo to hold the concrete up. Which the tin I paid for for 22 pieces that he asked me to pick up plus 14 pieces of rebar. He called me in a deceitful voice asking if he could use play wood I told him no that we will not use plywood. He text me the next day saying I got the plywood. I reminded him that he will not use plywood on the porch and again I reminded him if he would of just went with sand like I originally told him I would not be $11,000 out on this project. $6700 went to Down East and the other contractor was $4300. Down East contractors took the tin and rebar I bought back and refunded the money. And just to mention the job was supposed to be a 30'x30' porch but Wound down to a 30'x20' instead that was the change and Down East Contractors would only come by about Two hours at a time to do the work I have text messages that can be added also if need be. this people are a scam artist they are king pins at what they do. If you want a good brick masonry contact the company that sales supplies to the people like ************ or ***** or call the around to different concrete companys like ready ******* those guys they will lead you in the rite direction.
